how can i tell if my intake gaskets are leaking between the tb and the head?

Start bike. Spray with starting fluid or wd 40 around them and see if idle changes. Don't hit aircleaner or inside throttle body. Easy does it.

Low pressure propane or butane directed at the joints with a long small diameter tube is the best way, but WD-40 will do in a pinch.  The trick is to isolate the air cleaner so that whatever spray you use can't be sucked into the air cleaner, which will give you a false result.  Btw, check the easy stuff first.  On top of the manifold/TB is a small metal tube that should have a rubber cap on it unless you have a California emissions system bike.  The rubber caps sometimes go missing, like after a backfire through the intake for instance.  If the cap is missing you will have a constant vacuum leak.

will double check the plug on top, but going down the hwy, my vision says the front is running around high 15. its supposed to be set at 14.1. this worries me and thats why i suspect an air leak. its only the front as the back cyl stays where it should. Is there something else i should be looking for at the same time?

Definitely check the intake gaskets for leaks, since that was a common problem back in the day.  I assume you're talking about the 2006 btw.  If you have no intake leak and you have a reading in the high 15's for AFR, perhaps the front injector is partially plugged.  Do you have any obvious signs of the front actually running lean, or are you just going by an AFR reading from a PV?  It's not unheard of for oxygen sensors to fail or drift.

That's not a strong indication of an air leak. Searching at idle is a very strong indication. If you have that issue your on the right track.

Quick and dirty way if cable efi, cover the iac inlet in the TB and the motor will die. Doesn't die? Replace seals.

That's a good trick, if its cable and not FBW.

never considered a possible plugged injector. and now that you mention it, it didn't actually show signs of being lean by running hot, pinging, etc etc. i just looked down and saw it and got nervous i guess. i think ill go ahead and check the obvious things anyway cause it cant hurt. I tried to attach a short log file but it wont let me.
