Sorry to hear about your wife's unfortunate accident. Like you said it could have been worse. Hoping for quick healing and getting her back in the saddle.

My wife was doing 70 mph as she was leading some less experienced riders.  The truck passed them, and right after it pulled back into the right lane is when the truck spit its drive shaft out.

You just never know.  I do know it was not her time......

WOW !!  Sorry to hear it , Glad she's pulling through. Crazy turn of events for sure.

Dave, melinda & I are praying for Donna & you. praying for complete healing, ease of pain & comfort. praying praises to the Lord for his intervention in looking out for her & in the time of a crisis. in this, I'm just glad she was able to come away with little injury(as it could've been way worse). the bike is a monetary thing that can be replaced, loved ones can not.   as for the driver, I don't feel that it was his fault, as it appears to be mechanical. as a driver & defensive safety instructor for 37 yrs, I do know the companies liability would still be responsible for all bills & replacing the vehicle. prayers to see you two soon & in good spirits. heal fast Donna, & thank the Lord Jesus Christ every day.

Dave

Holy crap! Sorry to hear about the wife's mishap. I would think there's a connection between the front wheel damage and
her broken wrist. Amazing she didn't go over the bars. Those ribs are going to hurt long after the rest has healed.
If there's a bright side, minor injuries for that type of get off. Hope she heals up fast!

Steve@fullsac.com

Thanks Steve.  I was told she went down on the interstate and how.  I was shocked when I first got to see her in the ER at how good she looked and how minor her injuries were for that type of get off.

Sorry to hear about this Dave.  Your wife must have been dressed appropriately to not suffer more injuries.  Leathered up with helmet I expect...  I hope her recovery goes well.  A pretty unavoidable accident...

You are correct, full gear, chaps, leather jacket, leather vest, full face helmet, boots above ankle.  She always says, " Only cover the parts you want to keep"

Makes me evaluate my choice of riding gear.  Not sure I am smart enough to change.

I continue to thank all of you for the prayers.  I'm 100% sure they are helping my wife, and I am grateful.

The Driver was not ticketed.  The driver was not at fault unless he was negligent in is pre-drive inspections, and in his required maintenance on the truck.  I hold no blame on the drive at this point, once maintenance records are seen that could change.  The driver was truly sorry from what my wife's friend said.

This is best advice of the day/month/year.

But like you, I have been (too) slow to change....I've made it to 3/4 helmet and Kevlar jacket and Kevlar-lined pants, but am not yet "all-the-time". My wife (passenger) is even more reluctant to adapt, even though she is more vulnerable due to a fused spine.

I wish your wife a complete and healthy recovery.

Wow, I just saw this and it brought  flashbacks of my going down last May. Prayers for Donna's speedy recovery. You never know when the other vehicle is going to have a problem. The Lord was with her as it could have been a lot worse. Donna you did all you could do and the rest was the Lord
stepping in. We will continue to pray for your recovery. Dave, take good care of her and fram those pictures .

She is progressing very well.  She is of course very sore.  She keeps talking lots about riding again.

I thank everyone for your support and prayers.  I know it is helping.  Figure several of those pictures will be framed and put up.

Sorry to see this and glad to see she likes full gear. Sounds like she will come out on top with her injuries  :2vrolijk_21:.

I would have thought the wheels would hold up better hitting an object.

I would have thought the wheels would hold up better hitting an object.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess lighter wheels does not necessarily mean stronger wheels. In the late 90's I was having my BMWRT serviced. I asked the technician why the police BMW RTs had steel rims with spokes. He said they were stronger and better at going over things like curbs, steps, off roads and other hazards. All supposedly tested by the German Engineers in Bavaria. Still, I imagine that 70plus mph over a steel driveshaft would damage just about anything this side of a tank tread.

If hers is a total, she is adamant that her new bike will be purple, even if I have to have it custom painted again.
