Electrical Woes......
« on: March 21, 2017, 05:39:05 AM »

Some background; 2015 CVO Limited. The other day I noticed the factory wiring for the battery tender was no longer working (used a VOM and discovered no voltage reading at the "plug" but on the battery). I pulled the battery to see if I could see anything amiss and realized I couldn't see anything so I decided to just put another tender jumper on and run it out of the other side of the bike. Put is all back together and all works well on the new "tender wire". Now the "epic fail" part. I start the bike to go for a ride and everything seems to be operating as it should with the exception of "sound" coming from the speakers so I pull her back into the garage, take apart to check fuses, etc. Nothing. I decided to try the headsets and they work fine. I can see the volume control go up and down but still no sound from the speakers. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ted

Sorry you're having troubles Ted and more sorry if this is too obvious. Perhaps a harness which you disconnected when removing the battery didn't get reconnected properly :nixweiss:??

Obvious is great. I checked them all several times. Unconnected and reconnected all of them. The odd part that gets me is this all started with the "tender" cable stopped working. Like I said, it all looks good but just no sound, except for when I connect the headset up!! Thanks for the quick response

Where is the speaker switch on a 2015 Limited?
The pre-rushmore bikes had a hardware switch on the dash. 2014 and newer bikes have a software switch in the Infotainment Setup. Go to "home/setup/audio" to find the settings for speaker or headset (see attached photo). Disconnecting the battery may have somehow switched your "music/media" setting to headset only. Also, while you're on that setting screen .....this is where to adjust your volume to where you want it and to be certain it's not set at zero (muted). Good luck :2vrolijk_21:.

Thanks TRIGGER MAN! I checked that as well which is how I got it to go too the headsets. Electrical issues are the pits..... Sure hate to take it to the Dealers for something stupid. It has to be something simple............

Thanks,
Ted

It has to be something you unplugged messing with the rats nest of wires around the battery. Or maybe a blown fuse to the speakers. Did you check the battery cables for corrosion and tightness.

I didn't see any mention of you checking the fuses.  The battery tender connection is fused at the fuse panel and is part of the P&A circuit if I remember correctly.

Fuse was my first thought as well. I checked the "Battery" fuse and the "Radio" fuse but never looked for "P&A" fuse. Like I said though, the connection to the battery tender wire is open and the radio seems ok except for the sound so that sounds like an open circuit to me. You can bet that as soon as I get home today Jerry, that will be the first thing I will do. I knew you "smart" folks could help a brutha out!! I will let y'all know soonest!

It's enough of a bother to get to the fuse panel whenever you're in there checking one fuse just check them all.

I will do that for sure. Who woulda thunk that the "speakers" were connected to the "P&A" fuse....... not me, that's for sure.
