Top 15 Motorcycle Roads in America.....
« on: March 23, 2017, 07:59:39 PM »

And, as usual, it's all just a matter of opinion of the writer/author.

But we did ride #13 during the Santa Maria GTG and it looked nothing like it does in this picture.  It was all a beautiful green and colored in wild flowers (see this ride report....  https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=111494.0 ).

Yes, only #13 last weekend.  Several more of those rides in the last year.  Another one or two a bit later in the summer.

The Dragon is over rated. Much better roads in the same area.

I have rode 7 of that list.

Bear Tooth Pass is my favorite road so far.

I also love Million dollar Highway  550

I also love Highway to the Sun in Glacier.

Dragon is ok, but as others have said, many better roads in the area with the Cherahola Skyway being one of them.

Blue ridge is a nice ride

Natchez trace is ok, but not a top 20 in my mind.

Beartooth/Chief Joseph is the best stretch of road have ridden.  Been on several of these, all have their merits.  Lower part of Natchez Trace, not so much, upper part is better.  Dragon is over rated but since is a destination road, it gets mentioned a lot.  Cherahala is more fun - for me.

Shh, don't let it out. Then I'll have to deal with all the idiots from the Dragon coming over here and ruining my rides.

Yeah, EVERYBODY should just ride the Dragon, and be happy with that. Forget Cherahala.   ;)

Have read more people - or about as many - are killed riding Cherahala as Deal's Gap.  Something like Mile Marker 2 (3?).  Rode it many times, do not recall any area being much more dangerous.  Cold up there in those clouds.

Foothills Pkw. is fun to rip it up but have seen LEOs there too many times...

I've been riding in that area since I was 19 I'm 50 now. used to go to the Gap and never go anywhere else just ride up and down up and down up and down up and down all day. Used to be able to do it for time. The road was practically closed and the speed limit was 55.

Once it started hitting magazine in car clubs discovered it got too busy, etc.... it made us Adventure out. I still go twice a year still stay at the same motel and may not even go through the Dragon and still do 4-500 miles not counting trip to and from.

In fact spring trip is the last weekend in April!!!

I love Foothills PKW.  I like to set cruise at 55 for a nice ride over it.   LEO usually leave you alone at 10 over.

68 out of Tellico over to GA is a nice ride.

G'Day Y'all,

I'm with FLSTI Dave on this one, I have done the first seven rides and rate, Beartooth, Million Dollar Highway & Highway to the Sun among the best rides I have done anywhere period. The Blue Ridge & the Natchez Trace are very nice rides and I prefer Cherahola or the Rattler to the Dragon but they are all fun.

There are plenty others I would put on the list but they did not make it. Have to agree that its just a matter of opinion and its impossible to agree. I like to use these reviews to help plan outings for Lucille, Miss Lenda & myself.

Cheers Tom

I did Beartooth Pass this past summer. Very cool. I also really liked the road that goes Big Horn State park...cant remember the Hwy number but we got off route going from Rapid City to Cody, Wyoming and detoured that way. One of my favourites of the whole trip.

I agree about NC. One of my favorite routes in that area is US 64 from Franklin to Highlands. The one with the cool waterfalls.
