Core Removal - Help!
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:14:59 AM »

Have to remove left side Fullsac 2.0 core to replace the screen.  Removed tip and bolt holding core in but man for only being in there a year the core is in there.  I'm afraid of damaging the pipe or the core.  I want to reuse the core as it is still in perfect condition.
Tips and suggestions please.  Thanks

I remember reading that you can start up the bike and rev the engine. But be careful.....once it breaks loose it will shoot out.

I would put some bolts in the end cap muffle holes to stop the baffle once it break loose.

The other way of course, Is to take the muffler off and tap it out using a wooden punch.

When installing I coat each end with a little anti-seize and have had no difficulty removing later.

Perhaps Fullsac has a trick to remove the baffle?  When reassembling, coat the metal to metal parts with a little anti seize hi temp lube.

I've used a strap wrench on the stinger and a light tap on the baffle, dropped right out for me.
Maybe a little wd40 on the flange? Shouldn't be THAT tight.

Had mine stick when first installed.  Finally got them out with a broomstick about same size as baffle pushed down in them.  Cleaned up some rough surfaces where original spot welds were removed.  Remembered I had a slide hammer from Harbor Freight which has a hook attachment on the end.  Drilled a small hole inside baffle where it already has perforations just large enough to hook the impact wrench into and have not had a problem since.

First, I appreciate all the tips.  Went at it yesterday with strap wrench and no luck.  I like the vise grip idea.  Going to put it back on bike for now until parts arrive from Steve then go at it hard.  WD40 for 2 days now.  I know one thing when I do get it out she's getting some anti-seize on it before it goes back in!

Starting the bike up is the most fun. Let it idle for about 5 minutes, give it a few revs over the lawn or some thing soft
for the baffle to land on. Once out, be sure to grind down any burn through of the welds at the muffler brackets. Many
times this is the culprit for a stuck baffle.
