Exhaust tappet roller failure
« on: April 11, 2017, 10:39:06 AM »

I have a 2010 CVO FLHTCUSE5 I purchased it 1 year ago and recently had a tapping/chirping sort of noise in the engine.
Mechanic said it was an exhaust tappet roller failure.
WTF Is this a common problem?
The bike only has 25000 miles on it.

That's a hell of a way to introduce yourself....but welcome to the board, anyway.  :huepfenlol2:

DonJuan,

Since your post is of a technical nature, I moved it here. You're more likely to get an answer to your question that way. If you'd like to reintroduce yourself, feel free to do so in the new member section.

Just wondering, should I change the lifters and cam at a certain milage or wait for the noise to start first?

My rule of thumb on these bigger engines (especially with the latest OE Made in Mexico lifters) is replace them every 20K.  Owners must start thinking of lifters as wear out items, similar to tires and brake pads.

I did a cam change and change mine with the S&S. I wouldn't wait. I have 7K
