Soon we are over the top of the mountains and ready to drop down in to the desert.....where the temperature quickly changes...and so does the scenery.

A look down the main street of the town of Anzo Borrego and a view of the mountains that we'd just came over....

A good thing they had a sign telling us.......otherwise, we wouldn't know.....

Great pictures.. Really like the one im the black suite....

That one is special for you and Alan...... Hard on an old many to be around to much of that kind of activity....started feeling like a dirty old man.  I could have been arrested for the thoughts it invoked.

Getting in to the jeep in the desert, sliding around in the back seat, ripped the azz out of my jeans on some bad weld spots.  The little rip only got larger as this weekend progressed.  Sure hope I didn't offend anybody cuz I go commando.  :P

Really nice pics, JC.  Looks like an awesome adventure!

And BTW, we could have done without the "commando" remark.  It (almost) ruined my memory of all that other curvy scenery!   :P

On the way back in to California and to San Diego we stopped in Glamis.  If you're in to the sand toys you've probably heard about it even if you've never been there.  I've passed through Glamis several times and it's always RVs and sand rails, dune buggys, quads, etc. for as far as the eye can see.  And you can certainly rent any type of sand toy that is your pleasure, from any number of places out there.

But this time there were probably less than 100 total.  Not sure why it was so deserted but here's a link to what it normally looks like....

Sand Toy Capitol of The World......

We met these three people in Glamis, at the store.  They are from New Jersey and these two are riding from Los Angeles to Miami.  They plan to ride 70-90 miles a day.  The bikes weigh 18 lbs. and I just found it very interesting....

I have to say that this is the softest sand that I've ever experienced in this country......almost like powder.  The only place I've felt softer sand was in the Bahamas.

And, like any desert, the sand is constantly changing and does cover the road from time to time.  They do a pretty good job of keeping it off the highway but the roads do get covered from time to time......just put it in four wheel drive and keep going.....

Oh yeah it does. That desert sand is super soft, especially on them soft shoulders. They sure aren't dirt. I just about dumped my bike on CA62 west of Vidal pulling off for some shade at was going maybe 10mph and that front tire sunk right to the rim and well, that was that.
