Rivco quick detach cooler/luggage rack
« on: April 20, 2017, 09:47:16 AM »

Wondering if anyone has or has had experience with this Rivco rack.  Since I sold my '07 and its color matched Bushtec trailer I've been debating as to whether I'd get another Bushtec.  What with the moco being even more anal (as if that's possible, lol) about warranty and a trailer hitch is a big no, no, I've been looking at alternatives.

Any info very much appreciated.

I've saw similar on Goldwings.

Sure seems like that would add a lot of weight behind the rear axle which we all know, would affect the handling, especially at slow speeds.   :nixweiss:

I like that....

....however, whatever you place in that basket will more than likely block your brake lights and/or rear turn signals.  Just something to ponder on...

Good points all.  Rivco says limit cargo weight to 35 lbs and they also sell a light kit because it will block the taillight.  I know a couple guys in our local H.O.G. Chapter who have these and they say it has not affected the handling adversely and with the new Rushmore bikes the tour-pak lights function as run/brake/turn.  One guy says he followed the other and had no problems with the lights on the tour-pak being sufficient.

I've not ridden with these guys and  haven't see this rack 'in action' so was hoping someone on the site had first hand experience.

Not sure of the aerodynamics on other's bikes, but I've run into problems with the front end getting way too light at speed, especially when 2-up and with the TP relocated rearward.  This rack has the potential to make it much worse.  That was one of the reasons I bought a Klockworks windshield--the flip put more downforce on the front.  Really helped.

The while cancel your warranty threat is illegal Harley nor any other company can take your warranty away. They have to prove the addition of the item caused a failure of an item to deny a claim. That being said I am sure they will fight claims of trailer owners and most will give in because of the money to fight the claim may exceed the repair.

After having seen a tote get melted on the tail end of an SUV, I'd worry about the hot exhaust damaging whatever is on the rack.

I agree but like you said probably way to expensive to fight.  Thankfully I've not had to face a denial of claim so I'm unsure is the moco actually voids the entire warranty or just rejects the specific claim on the grounds of having a trailer hitch (or other non-factory authorized mod).

And the ESP does not have any protections since it is a service contract not a manufacturer's warranty and is not covered by the Federal law.  I believe the can and will void the entire contract (and give you a refund on the unused portion).

I'm just less willing to take the chance and have to be concerned should I have a warranty claim while on the road with a trailer.  For the very high cost of these new bikes I want the moco to take care of any and all problems during the warranty period.  The cost of the bike itself is more than enough 'Harley tax' for me, lol.

I agree on the cost. However I  am still amazed that when they produced sidecars the warranty wasn't affected.  I can only imagine if Harley made a trailer then it would be fine. Since they get no money out of it taboo is the word.

I have decided no more ESP anyway I like pulling a trailer and will do my own repairs.

Definitely  keep the soup warm!   IMO this is lame.
