New to Harley - need thoughts on performance
« on: May 29, 2017, 07:27:25 AM »

Just purchased a 2010 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide Dark Side Limited Edition. Just came off a Victory with performance Cams producing 113 TQ and 112 HP. I would like to find a way to exceed those numbers with the 110 CVO...ideally around 120 for both numbers. The bike runs well now, just could use some more ponies. Also a friend advised me not to do a major mods because it is a numbered bike and would hurt the resale value, is that true?

I have a 2014 CVO Limited. Added the 117" kit + full V&H system and a good dyno operator.

I now have 120 hp and 130 ft/tq on the rear tire. Very happy with how it runs.

So these numbers are easy to reach.

It's not to hard to get 120 square.  You can do it with 110 engine, but takes a careful selection of parts.  I did it with a 110, it was Head work by HD street performance, 10.5 HD pistons, 259E HD cam, woods lifters, 5.3 injectors, HPI 55mm throttle body. Compression with head work set to 10.8.  I was just over 120 square.

Much easier with the 117 set up.  I'm Just about 140 square with it.  138 HP and 140 torque.

It's not really true these days, since Harley cranked up the production volumes of all the CVO's.  You will find that resale values for all Harleys, including CVO's, have dropped significantly.  It's a motorcycle, not a museum or collector piece, so just do what you want and ride it.  No matter what else you choose to do to the engine, I suggest you read the information on the site about lifter failures on the 110 engines and have both the lifters and inner cam bearings replaced with better parts.

The 117 kit as advertised only states 100 HP and 112 TQ so what are you doing different? Also how much did the work set you back? Can you install the 117 kit on a 2010 model...I thought I read it had to be a 2014 or newer?

You can install it on any 110.  They only list it for 2014 and later because they sell it as a street legal kit and they didn't develop and release a street legal emissions compliant version for the older models.  You will need to buy a good tuning system and have it tuned.

I added the full V&H system and had a custom built map from a good Dyno operator. That's is in my case. Others have done more and got more "power" as well.

Total cost probably around $5K.

getting the #`s your looking for wouldn't be hard at all, with some mild headwork,a slight compression bump & decent cam set, you`ll be very happy and have better than OEM reliability, heres what I would suggest:
2.100/1.630 headwork with beehive springs
S&S lifters
S&S roller rockers
compression set @ 10.25-1
t man .625 cams
this build would give much more than your looking for & be very touring friendly

My 117 build is in my signature, the 13 CVO King.  HD Street performance did the head work.
