The Sky Is Falling.....Again
« on: March 08, 2007, 11:20:00 AM »

Just read a Time article regarding the recent changes to the upcoming time change. For those who are unaware, we "Spring Forward" this Sunday, March 11th. The article is mentioning the  cataclysmic issues at the level of the Y2K scare, which never happened.

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1596686,00.html?cnn=yes

Here's a thought, just do it manually or download the patch!

The U.S., not to mention the entire world spent $M to $B of dollars with study groups, action groups, plans and procedures, separate divisions to deal with the Y2K problem. Did I mention the problem never occurred?

I was say that the new time change is tantamount to being a slight inconvenience. The crazy media is yelling "fire" in the movie house.

I'm on auto updates with my Microsoft products and when I tried to download the patch early today at the insistance of a vendor it was already there from the auto download.

No techie here but I agree that for most applications the fix/repair is simple and for the most part already in place.

having survived Y2K, and currently going through hell in the telcom biz. with the new DST rules. let me tell you they aint just yellin "fire"

theres no windows update for all of the telcom equipment that make this world go round.

will all of the phonecalls stop completeing? no certinaly not. but when some equpiment is alredy set to deal with DST happening this weekend and some isnt. you might want to take a good look at you phone bills the next 2 months make sure peak and off-peak times are still what you think they are......

All hell's breaking loose where I work because of Calendar functions with future scheduled meetings...most people run Outlook, but for those who don't there may be problems.

I just checked my sundial and abacus.  Both seem to be taking the impending change without issue.  Did have to update the finish on the sliderule (a lot of miles on it though).

There may be problems w/Outlook also. Where I work (well at least where I get a pay check from :)) the IT department sent out an email telling everyone they were running a patch to fix this time change, but they should check there appointments to make sure that the times were changed accordingly.

What the heck are you guys talking about? I ran Microsoft update and they don't show any Critical or Optional updates to coorect DST issues. If the computer doesn't automatically change the DST, why can't you just change the time manually? Why will there be OS or Outlook issues because of this change in the DST date? :confused5: Hoist! 8)

there shouldnt be any big issues with your average "windows" PC you would have got the update for this about 6 months ago

Thanks Neal, I guess I'll find out this weekend if their patch did anything. If not, I'll just change it manually, I guess. Hoist! 8)
