Change of mind..........
« on: September 25, 2004, 07:43:57 PM »

As you guys know, after my last accident in May I decided not to ride anymore and was going to sell my bike.  It was actually on the floor at Harley Davidson of Sacramento.

I've been getting urges to go ride and yesterday I drove up to Reno and Street Vibrations run.  By the time I had gotten there, I wanted to ride so bad that I could hardly stand it.  I met with the guys from this site at the CVO get together and had a great time.

By the time I got home at 2:30 this morning, I talked with my wife about it and she said "well, it's not too late....it's still down there".  As I was driving down to the dealership today to talk to them about it, I get a call from the sales manager.  She says "J.C. I have a guy here who is very interested in your bike and wants to know what is your bottom line?"  I said "it's already priced too low......so I'm on my way down there now to get it". lol   I called a friend and had him meet me down there to ride it home for me (I'm still on crutches).

My SEEG is now parked in my garage! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Congrats JC, good to hear the news.  Hopefully it's not too long before your back in the saddle again.

JC,
This is one of those choices without a right or wrong answer.  It's just right or wrong for you.  Even then it's what feels right or wrong at any given time.  I've been down too, a couple of times.  Not nearly so damaged as you were.  And don't even begin to comprehend what you went through.  So when I say congratulations it's that kind of good wish that goes along with whatever choice you end up being happiest with.  No right or wrong; just right for you.  So congratulations and happy riding, or boating, or sitting on the porch with the Misses drinking your beverages of choice.

Congrats on your decision JC. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  I rode for 5 years (age 14 to 19), had a bad experience [smiley=furious.gif], quit riding for 5 years [smiley=nixweiss.gif], got back into it for the next 38 years  [smiley=laugh.gif] and have never looked back.  Now the proud holder  [smiley=bigok.gif]of 43 years of happy motorcycling.  Keep the oiley side down and the shiney side up and happy motorcycling to you.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Now that you have made the big decision, there is something that you are going to notice.  You will begin healing at twice the speed (read warp speed).  Good luck and as Red Skelton use to say at the end of every show, "may God Bless".

JC - The story about you retrieving your SEEG was inspirational.  What we won't all do for the love of riding.  You are a testament to that!!!  Thanks for hanging in there because I think we all realize it could have just as easily been one of us.  I would hope I would have the same perserverance as you.  We haven't met, but I'm glad to know you and be part of the site you started.  Keep on healin' and enjoy your trip to Colorado. Howdy JC ... I just found this forum yesterday. I need to go find the intro folder and introduce myself <G>.

Just wanted to say, hang in there. I broke my leg (not motorcycle related) Labor Day weekend 2002. I did an Iron Butt ride in a cast about six weeks later. Nothing was going to keep me from riding! LOL

It's either in you......or not! lol

By the way, as busted up as I got in my accident, there was no blood, no roadrash, no open wounds (other than where my bones were sticking through the skin).  Really freak injuries for a 25-30 mph accident.

JCZ  wise choice !  BEst of luck with a speedy recuoperation. I had a real bad accident 15 years ago, my X forbade me from riding again after that .. a few months after the divorce was final I bought my first HD , another thing she was against.

I found the most wonderful lady in the world , we both ride , she has an 05 1200C , and we are getting hitched in a couple of months.  If it's worth having , it's worth waitin for

Thanks you guys........I really appreciate the thoughts.

Had an MRI and a CT Scan done on Friday.  They're thinking that I may have some spinal injury......either that or the hardware that they put in my pelvis (one bolt is 9" long and you can actually see the threads on it in the x-rays).  Personally, I hope it's the hardware......that could come out now.  I've had back surgery before and it's not fun.....too long to recuperate.

I showed my x-rays to my new Dr. yesterday.......he couldn't contain his reaction....."Wow, that's some hardware.......I'm impressed that you can even walk".  So, again I hear from a medical professional how lucky I am and I am grateful.

You guys take it easy out there........don't be next.

It's almost midnight and I just got home from a ride of a couple hundred miles.  Six of us took off today......weather 72 degrees.......just a great ride.  For me, I was really appreciative because I made the decision to keep it, after my accident.  Best decision I've ever made, regarding motorcycles, next to buying it! JCZ.........I read about your 'downtime', the decision to keep the bike and ride again, I know it's been a long, long painful time getting to the point of being able to take that trip and my congrats go out to you too.  I also know that it makes it all the sweeter to be able to ride again.  Good deal !   [smiley=smile.gif]
