New wheels & tires...now I just need the $
« on: May 22, 2007, 01:19:33 PM »

I've decided on a set of wheels I will get for the ride, PM Cross-cut Gassers.  I've checked the posts regarding tires and there seem to be some mixed reviews about the Metz ME880, but I think I'll try that out anyhow.  I plan on getting 18" rims for front and back, but am unsure of the right wheel width/tire size combo I need to retain the same handling I have now.  I've made a sincere attempt to try to understand the confusing language of motorcycle tires, but am not positive  :confused5:.  I'm thinking I can go with a 18" x 4.25" rear wheel with a 150/70-18 tire, but not too sure of the correct adjustment for the front.  Has anyone else w/ an '05 changed their wheel?  What did you go with?

Great looking choice, and another voter for Metzeler tires...I just switched to them and wish that I had done it a long time ago.  Contact the folks at HogPro.com for your wheel questions.  They are the most knowledgeable folks that I have come across, and good prices too!

Great looking choice, and another voter for Metzeler tires...I just switched to them and wish that I had done it a long time ago.  Contact the folks at HogPro.com for your wheel questions.  They are the most knowledgeable folks that I have come across, and good prices too!

What he said...talk to Phil at HogPro, tell him you are a CVO member and you'll get free hardware and shipping.  I had them mount and assemble everything so wheels and tires came ready to put on.

The 150/70x18 will fit on rear without issue...you're not carrying a load on the FB, so the load rating shouldn't be an issue.  The 4.25" wheel with that tire will look great.  On front, I would go with a 3.5" wheel, 18" of course, and a 140/70x18 if you want to stay with 18's front and rear, and a fat tire look.  You can put a 19 on front too.  Talk to Phil, he's seen it all done...

A 19"...hmmmm..just when I thought my mind was made up.  Thanks for all the great info.  I'll give HogPro a call.  I'm getting hitched at the end of July, but was told by the lady that I could do whatever I wanted to the bike after the wedding...and I saved the email for future evidence.  I've been told that won't matter though   :D

I looked into the 19" for my bike, but the load rating on the tire was much less than the 18", so I went with the 18.  It looks good too...much better than the 16".

Whom ever you order your wheels through will hook you up with all the correct pieces and parts.

I ran an 18" front with a Metz and have no complaints. I've since switched to the 21"x3.5" and at only a couple MM narrower I haven't noticed and adverse affects.

TP...a friend of mine has your exact same S/S FB.  He went with the 18's front and rear with a set of HogPro brand wheels.  Gives that bike a TOTALLY new look.  While you're at it, go on and get the matching rotors, pulley, and chrome calipers  :2vrolijk_21:

You read my mind, TC.  Do you happen to have any pics of his ride that you could post?

You weren't kidding.  His bike looks great.  The 18's make an enormous difference.  Same with BigDaddy's ride.  The larger wheels really enhance the looks.

I think the ones in this pic look absolutely cool if the rims are actually black as they appear to be. The only thing I would suggest on the SE Fatboy is to lose the tin seat pan and also put some rad Paul Yaffe pipes on it. He's got some really cool black out shotguns with chrome heatsheilds that look like the barrel cover on a Browning .50 cal

Good luck. Post your address and I'll send you $1 to get started. If everyone on the site sends you a buck you got your wheels covered Dude.
