you think harleys hard to deal with!!!
« on: June 07, 2007, 11:15:45 PM »

well we all know how much trouble everyone went through with the paint on the 06, well it must be catching, I bought a 2007 chevy truck in Dec, since the buy, it has had a leak in the tranny, exhaust leaks, air condition problems, and this last weekend the rear end burnt up!!!! I checked the grease level, it is supposed to be 5/8 to 1 5/8 from the check plug...... it was 3 inchs down ,no leaks, was that way from the factory, melted all the paint off the casings. the dealer looked at and said the problem was pinion gear to tight from factory. so, either way low on grease or pinion to tight I figure its the factories fault right? right..... but they still will not replace the rear end, they will replace parts barrings pinion, ring gear....... but not axles or housing?????? WTF????? it got hot enough to melt the paint, it was run 18000 miles low on grease.. really low on grease, they are tring to tell me it didnt hurt the axles and they only want to fix it half way? the dealer stated they have seen 8 to 10 new chevy trucks that have done this. so, BEWARE  :soapbox: :soapbox:OF BUYING A NEW CHEVY TRUCK!!! just as in HD'S case they know there is a problem and they don't want to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been fighting with factory reps all week.........woman that dont know a axle from a carb....no offense ladies. but these reps sound on the phone like vally girls and are not affraid to tell you they dont know anything about axles, gears, or barrings but they are the ones making the decissions on my case... this really sucks no more chevys for me I am trading it in on a dodge, toyota, ford anything but a gm product!!!!!! >:(

If it's reliability you're looking for, I hate to say it, but I'd stay away from the American manufacturers.  I am a die-hard Mopar fan, but don't go looking to them for a trouble-free product, either.  I will deal with the problems, because, like Harleys, they are in my blood, but all three of the Dodge/Chrysler units I've bought in the last 30 months have had their share of malfunctions.  Perhaps the only saving grace has been that I have got to have the best Mopar tech in the country, bar none, at my dealer.  I don't think he's spent more that 60 seconds diagnosing any of the issues I've had and the repairs are always done in such a manner that you can't tell anyone's even so much as turned the ignition key on to drive it around to his bay from the service entrance -- he is just that particular and careful with my machines.  Also, I have yet to have any warranty claims denied, so that may be one stark contrast versus your situation, but the fact remains, you very rarely (or at least I don't) hear of the Toyota or Nissan guys having the types of problems us Big 3 types do. :nixweiss:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........that's a different spin on the issue.  I am a fairly new Mopar fan after driving a 1982 Ford F100 for 430K miles.  I wanted a diesel, and I wanted a REAL diesel..............not an engine based on gasoline architecture that runs on diesel.  So I bought a Dodge with a Cummins Turbo Diesel, and I have not had one lick of even so much as a hint of trouble out of that vehicle.  Had it two years this month.  Have right at 50K on it, and it has been moderately worked.................nothing so much as most one tons are worked, but it has seen its share of flogging under load.  Good truck.  There will never never be jap crap in my driveway..............I don't care if I have to sop up oil leaks until the day I die.................I will not own anything but American branded vehicles...........well, besides Chevy, that is.  Reminds me too much of Jeff Gordon.  AAAACCCKKK!!! :o

Twincam-
Sorry to hear of the problems with your new truck.  A coworker has an 06 Chevy 1500 and had a noisey rearend since new.  The dealer changed the pinion bearings.  The dealer didn't shim it right so Chevy put him in a new loaded axle housing (from wheel to wheel).  You may still get what you want as there aren't many people that can set up a rearend in an axle housing properly.  Good luck.

I guess car dealerships can be like different Harley dealerships? Some don't give you a problem with claims and others fight anything.
As far as what brand to buy I have seen many articles that show complaints and recalls and the "American" cars and trucks are pretty even with the "imports". It is very hard to distinguish nationalities of vehicles when you have "American" cars assembled in foreign countries or with imported parts, then you have "imports" built in America.
I have been very happy with GM product over the years in general but in the 1980s Olds had a  paint problem on both my parent's and my Delta 88 the Olds dealer gave us a hard time and we decided not to return to that dealership. At the same time my Suburban had a paint problem but the Chevy dealer said no problem and fully repainted it and gave me a loaner car.(American assembled)
My next Suburban was Canadian and I had absolutely no problems with it for 9 years. Since 2004 I have been driving my Avalanche (assembled in Mexico) and have not had any problems with it and it may be the best vehicle I have owned.
I go to a local Chevy dealer that treats my entire family with respect and the service department has never given us problems on claims or repairs. Because of their treatment I have been buying Chevys or getting service from them for the past 15 years.
Many folks develop brand loyalties and it may be based on several things including past good or bad experiences with a car or truck as well as dealings with the dealerships. Then you have the loyalty issues based on emotions or how you were raised. (Ford family vs. Chevy etc.)
I personally feel every brand has made some good vehicles in the past or present and each brand has made some lemons too.

Like someone once told me "Every car dealer has a service department, even Rolls-Royce. Anything made will possibly break or wear out."

Bike shops are like car dealers in that if you find one with a great
Service manager, he will go out of his way to help you.

thanks bro, I told them when I dropped it off , they might as well balance all 4 wheels while they are at it, becouse when I pick it up there best not be a hint of vibration, whin, or any thing that reminds me of a rear end problem or its coming back to them within the hour!!!hu come to think of it they told me that they couldnt get a complete rear end!!!

Reminds me of one of the reasons I changed career paths back in the mid '70's.  I was a Zone Service Manager with an auto company, back when service reps actually knew how to spin wrenches, and I still remember when we hired the first two young ladies straight out of school (non-technical degrees) to become our first female service reps.  The only thing either knew about vehicles was how to turn the key, put them in gear, and drive away.  That was the beginning of the end for true technical assistance; eventually the company just dropped all pretense of on-site technical assistance and set up the phone bank systems you find now (technician calls a "hot line" number rather than have a rep assist him in person).  Unfortunately, most of those phones are manned by non-technical people also.  They just punch your symptoms into a computer program and let it suggest a course of action.  Kind of like the phone support you get with computers; not very satisfying or effective.

The reps are now free to just sell parts and merchandising programs to the dealers, without having to get their hands dirty.

Bro, it is a terrible thing about the Chevy, but not at all surprising.  Too bad you had to go through with it.  Just don't think I could bring myself to buy a made in America Toyota when all those dollars go right back to the folks who brought us Pearl Harbor...............but that's just me and my train of thought.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do to keep peace in the family.  If a vehicle is causing strife, then move it on.  The Ryan family has had four Toyotas that never caused one second of problems.  Not one, not ever.  Good luck with your new vehicle and let the stress of the last one become a distant memory.  More time to ride your great CVO.

yea ,Mrs WE,
i did own a toyota tacoma, after Gail hit a deer and totaled it out, we went back to chevy for the rude awaking, on the toyota that was totaled, we bought it used it was a 2002, we paid $22,000 for it, we owned it for 3 1/2 years, we put over 80,000 miles on it, never had one lick of trouble out of it, and the insurance paid us $21,500 for it!!! not a bad deal.  the lemon chevy we bought, we paid $29,000 for it owned it 6 months, put 18,000 on it , it was in the shop at least 5 times (and still wasent fixed) and got a trade in of $19,500!!!! hummmmm dont take a genus to figure that one out!! ;) ;D ;D

Yessir.........my wife is one of them...........right here at the engine manufacturing facility off Pulaski Pike in Huntsville.  I razz her about it all the time....all in fun of course, but for me personally, I can't seem to get past the foreign aspect of the whole thing.  The dollars end up on that island on the left side of the international date line.  Something about feeding a foreign economy just bothers me.

And you know........the irony of this whole thing is even though the engine in my Dodge truck was made by Cummins in Cleveland, OH, the final assembly point was Saltillo, Mexico.  Go figure.  NAFTA!  More irony:  look at some of the OCD stuff we buy for our scooters........Kuryaken for example:  Korea.  HD chrome stuff:  Taiwan, ROC.  It's everywhere.  There is no way around it.............but the bottom line is at least the big three end item vehicles put the lion's share of the  dollars back into America.  Again.......my disclaimer:  Just my very humble and purely personal opinion. :2vrolijk_21:

You are correct Sir........on all counts, however, if I may refer you to a previous post in this thread, I made reference to the fact that.................the bottom line dollars end up in Japan.  Not back here at home where they belong.  It is a catch 22 in my family.  I give Renea plenty of good natured grief about working for the empire of Japan, but when she brings home the bacon............I really can't say much then.   :2vrolijk_21:

I stay out of jail, I dont get sun stroke, and I put money back in the hands of americans.(like your wife). just my opnion... :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Bro...let me tell ya............there are only two people on this site who get stuck in my craw, and they know who they are and why.  There are some things you just don't say or do.  Anyway, that chit isn't worth the electronic expenditure, nor are the causal factors.  'Nuff said.  Onward:   I'm having a blast with this.  I know we're funnin'.  You should see the conversations around my house sometimes.  Here I am, Mr. All American.......drive a big ass 1 ton Dodge Dually diesel......ride a Harley.....wife drives a Ford, Stef's getting ready to buy a 3/4 ton Dodge diesel..........heck even that ZTR mower Renea got for me on Father's Day is American made.  And she works for the empire of Japan.  It gets dicey!  But we all know it is in fun, and she knew when she took that job at TMMAL that I was going to give her a hard way to go about it.  No offense taken Brother.  I'm just rollin' right along with ya.  Too much fun..........these paradox situations.  It's all good!

Yeah Bro.........that is just about the truth.  I think it would cost somewhere around $15K to have the engine replaced in my truck.....even the the sticker priced it as a $5K upgrade.  That truck will fall down around that motor before that motor dies.  Good stuff. :2vrolijk_21:

The DC Star is funny like that.  I think I'd have fought that battle especially since the PT warranty is longer the the B2B warranty.  I gotta knock on wood when I say that my truck has been trouble free.  I'm lovin' it.

Simple solution........buy a Dodge!  Just my opinion.

Cars are built buy humans and get fixed by them, I have a 2004 Dodge SRT and going with our theme of the companies most expensice 2WD Truck and their CVO, it has had it's share of issues.  Mostly around the front pulley but there have been others.

I can do warranty work on it as a Jeep dealer and we have done some of it.  Mostly though I have had the local Dodge dealer do the work and it has been OK.  But the bottom line on these issues is you either decide to ride them out or you make a switch.  In my case with the mods to get over 600hp out of the SRT I decided to ride it out.

I can't fault someone that has not interest in fighting the fight that goes on sometimes with a manufacturer/dealer.  It is always unfortunate when a vehicle has issues and the customer can not get them resolved through their dealer.  IMHO it is the dealer that is the best/only true advocate for the customer and if you don't have a good/cooperative/helpful dealer you don't have squat.

This is proven here as well as most recently with Hoist having to move his warranty issues to a different dealer since the selling dealer didn't have the capacity?whatever to get the job done in a timely manner.

Hate to see folks that have gone domestic pull the plug on it and go to foreign manufacturers, but honestly it's what the foreign makers have relied on for years and now Toyota is reaping the harvest of what it has sewn.

Number One volume seller in the USA for all combined models.  I don't believe they can touch Ford yet on Truck sales.

24 April 2007

The Japanese manufacturer of cars Toyota Motor Corp. became the world leader on a sales volume of cars for the first quarter of 2007. Such information has been given today by the official press-secretary of the company.
During the first three months of 2007 Toyota has sold 2,348 million cars all over the world, having overtaken, thus, the former leader - American General Motors (GM) which sales volume during the specified period has made 2,26 million cars.

got to find something to burn besides gas...... hell, here it gettin close to $4 bucks a gallon,

Just got back from running my errands.  Filled up the Dodge.  It was darn near empty.....the fuel light was on.  It has a 35 gallon tank.  I put 35.766 gallons of diesel in it at $2.699 per gallon for a total of $96.53.  IF I can keep my foot out of the high pressure common rail, I'll get 20mpg, so on paper, I should be able to get 715 miles out of this tank.  It'll never happen tho'.  More like 600.  BUT...........the price of diesel is still cheaper than any grade of gasoline in Meridianville, AL.

That would be the high performance, non-carpal tunnel syndrome, teflon universal jointed, non-slip fingertip, gel pad palm, bionic finger, commode seat with auto wipe feature, feeding/hydration tube performance package, wouldn't it Howie?  Don't you already have that mod installed and fully operational both at work and at home? ;D

During the first three months of 2007 Toyota has sold 2,348 million cars all over the world, having overtaken, thus, the former leader - American General Motors (GM) which sales volume during the specified period has made 2,26 million cars.

yea, as I understand it, that is the reason toyota is giving the 0% financing on the tundra, they want to get more trucks out on the road, and I for one am very impressed with this truck. like I said it is 10 times the truck the chevy was, as a matter of fact, that is excatly, what I told the factory rep from GM. "no wonder toyota is smoking you'll on sells, you refuse to stand behind your products." I don't know about ford or dodge. but GM has gone to chit. this is just my experance and opinion!!!!  I just don't want to see anyone else have to eat $10,000 in a 6 month period, from buying a lemon GM. this is not a issolated insedent. the chevy dealer told me they had seen 8 to 10 2007 chevy silverados with this same rear end problem!!!!!

So THAT'S how you sit in front of your computer and post to this site over 5000 times over the course of 9 months.  OK, your secret is out.  I want one.  Where'd you get it?  How much did it cost?  Did you install it?  ;D

It was purely sick speculation as to how a "normal" human being can sit in front of a computer for hours on end without having to get up and visit the water closet.  You must have one installed in front of your computer...............or your computer is in your bathroom.  :-\ ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Here you go Henry! http://www.totousa.com/productpage.asp?PID=950 The water connects to the existing toilet water supply line and you need a power outlet nearby to plug it into. It's fairly simple to install. And it's got a CVO price too! About $800.00! :o Hoist! 8)

My guess is when the first BSR reads this thread.  Then it will spread like wildfire.  I remember when I was in the Army, my wife knew more about current ops than I did.  Those Girls are networked.  Heck, we could have had formation in front of my house each morning and kept the troops better informed by listening to Renea, than if we had formation in the hangar and listened to the First Sergeant and the Commander provide information. ;D

Man..........this thread has gone WAY off topic.  Good thing it is in "Off Topic."   ;D ;D ;D
