To damn hot
« on: August 08, 2007, 09:44:35 PM »

Was 104 here today in Charlotte.

We normally go to bike night on Wednesday evening.
Even with the sun down it was stiffling.
On the way home at 8:30 the weather band said it was still 95 degrees!

Give me AC!

Plenty HOT in Oklahoma too.  Upper 90's to about 110 is typical here this time of year.  I think it was 99 today, which would have made the heat index around 106.:sunny:

I haven't rode since Sunday...it is even hot here early in the morning (82 at 6:30 this morning).  Riding tomorrow and after work going on a dinner ride - just have to sweat.

103 here today, and 104 tomorrow!!  Downtown, where I work, with all the concrete and asphalt, I'll bet it was 110 outside my building.  Walking outside was like sticking your face in a fireplace :o

Here we get about 800 to a 1000.

We are known there so we get a great parking spot and good service.

It's a good time to be had!

Chip,

We got home from the office and discovered one of our AC units had stopped working and that area of the house was 85 degrees and rising. Had to wait for the AC guy to show up and get things back to normal.  Emergency, after-hours service - you know - BEND OVER.  With another scorcher predicted for today, we weren't taking chances.  In any event, we missed Bike Night!  Where do you take your bikes for tuning?  I got a new set of pipes for the V-Rod and need a good tuner.  Pipes, air cleaner and SERT going in this weekend!

Promises to be 104 today...the weekend might "cool off" to 99 or 100, but they are expecting another blast next week.

It's so hot, I saw a funeral procession pull into the drive through at Dairy Queen yesterday...

Well another 104 degree day here.

Riding in 104 temp is like having a blow dryer on high heat pointed at your face!

You a lot better then me Bro. I refuse to pull the :pumpkin: out in this heat. I love to ride but if I want to be in a sauna I'll just go to one. :sweatdrop: Call me a wuss, but I'm going to be in a cage w/the AC pumping when it gets in the triple digits and I have a choice.

I rode the V into work this morning just because I needed a "fix", but I'll probably white eye on the way home  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:  I won't leave the office until after 6 though...maybe it'll only be 99 then, instead of the 103 they have predicted for mid afternoon.

Chit!!!  This kind of heat is just ridiculous!!

You Memphis guys had better hold on, as this High pressure is moving West over the weekend, so you're in for some of this lovely heat early next week. :o :P

I live about 30 miles east of OKC, so I can't just run home to get the bike on a whim.  Several friends had planned a dinner ride for last evening, so I rode the bike to work yesterday.  It was 101 when I left my office yesterday with a heat index of 110.  I am in the a/c'ed cage today.
No relief in sight...may be sweating for several more weeks :-\

Probably worse than the heat it the humidity, I hate high humidity, use to live in Fla, and NJ. Out here in Colorado the average humidity is about 37%, over the last few weeks it's been higher because of moist air out of the south. Man! it feels 5-10* hotter with the higher humidity, plus I sweat doing simple things out side. It's warm here,  but I feel for you guys!

FYI I went up in the mountains last Sunday, it got over cast, temp dropped to 57*!!!

Yes, I have been all over Colorado.  When the folks up around Colorado Spgs and Cripple Creek say something about it being warm there, I have to laugh :D ;D :D :).  They need to come down to the flat-lands and get a new appreciation for the summer climate they have.

S'pode a git to 99 here and 97 in Cumming, GA where my Brother lives.  Renea and I are headed there shortly.  We'll meet Tbone and flyingwillie along the way.  Spent a good portion of this week near Newport News, VA.  The hangar in which we worked was air conditioned, and I gotta tell ya, I thank the Good Lord above for that.  When I stepped out on that blacktop tarmac, it was like a blast furnace.  Even my rental car was unbearable.  Had to go out there, roll the windows down, start the car, put the A/C on WFO and go back in the hangar for a bit to let the car cool off.  Needless to say, I was glad to get back to north Alabama where the temperature was only 102 yesterday.............ah...........coolness!!!!! ;D  Speaking of that, I rode the green bike into work yesterday, finished up my trip report and left around 2pm.  Stopped by Rite-Aid to pick up an Rx for Stef.............when I went through the drive through, the clerk opened the window, and it felt like one of those Coor's Lite commercials.  It was all I could do to keep from climbing through that window.
Gonna be hot today.  For everyone who is committed enough to ride to today, like flyingwillie says, "you should be committed.................to an institution!"   :P  Don't worry..........I'll be right there with ya!  DRINK WATER!  STAY HYDRATED!!  YOU"LL DIE QUICK, FAST, AND IN A HURRY IF YOU DON'T!!

Had the chance to get out and ride today as we were experiencing a cold front (mid 80's - 90's). ;D Did it ever feel good to be back in the wind, and not feeling like I was in a sauna riding. Only took a short trip (about 100 miles) to see my oldest daughter and grandkids. Always nice to have your three y/o granddaughter run up into your arms and tell you she wants to go to your house. Talking about melting like hot butter, she has that affect on me everytime I see her. Along w/seeing my new grandson (2 months old today) it was a great day to be on a short ride and in the wind.

This is ridiculous. There is nothing below 102 in next weeks forecast in Memphis. Monday and Tuesday are highs of 106 and that is actual, not heat index.

It is, Mark...stayed in the house most of the day today and I'm going stir crazy.  I'll go for a ride in the AM before it heats up so badly.  Even the dogs do not want to stay out in this heat.  The mountains are going to be nice in a couple of weeks   :2vrolijk_21:

I think I said it was supposed to be something like 99 here and 97 in Cumming, GA when I posted earlier this morning.  BULLCHIT!  It was HOT today.  Renea and I put down a little over 450 miles.  We took the scenic route down to GA this morning via US 64 to US-41A to I-24 to I-75.  Renea wanted to eat at Jim Oliver's Smoke House.  That was a pretty decent ride, but from then on out, it felt like someone installed heat shrink guns all over my scooter.  Oil tank temp got up to 246 at one point...............but I was really pushing the bike to get to Roswell.  Met flyingwillie and Tbone there at Killer Creek HD.  It felt good to go inside the store.  Renea did some snoopin' for a helmet.  Couldn't find one that fit.  Headed up to my Brother's house in Cumming, GA.  Got lost.  There has been so much construction since we were last there in 2004, that I didn't know where I was until we were right on his neighborhood.  And the friggin' traffic lights.  WOW!  No way I could ever live in the city.  It is too damn HOT to be stopping every 300 feet for a 2 minute red light.  Anyway, we ate............chilled.............then got ready to head back home.  flyingwillie and Tbone left a few minutes before Renea and I left.  Renea and I came home via GA 20/AL 9 to AL 35, had supper in Scottsboro, picked up US 72 and backroads to our house.  The last 30 minutes or so were really nice, but I'll tell you this.................we're not gonna ride in hot weather like this again.  WHEW!  Glad that's over.  It was great to meet some more CVO folks and see my little Brother, but WOW..............IT'S HOT!!!!!!

Well, I was complaining of the high temps until we just got the cold front pass thru.......sure, it lowered the temps, but at what price.  A high wind shear passed thru....blew down large trees, roofs off of the local Holiday Inn and Days Inn.  Of course the electricty, cable, and phone lines were out for a day and half......hail storm w/ lighting strikes.....NICE!  Spent all day sawing/carrying pine tree limbs to get the yard back in shape.  Too tired to ride now.  :( Har!  :drink: spyder

Tell you what, Chip..........you let me know when the pronoun people (they....from the land of them) make a GPS that controls the weather, and I'll buy it.  Until then, I'm gonna use dead reckoning.  In my mind, GPS takes away from the adventure, lures users into complacency, isn't 100% accurate.....unless it is MIL STD, and can't keep up with changing infrastructure.....again, unless it is MIL STD.......and I have no desire to reside at the USDB in Leavenworth, KS.  The commercial stuff doesn't cut it.

You can't resist forever.

Been on this mortal coil for 44 years, Chip.  I've never used any type of navigation device, other than a map, outside of my profession.  I do pretty good when maps are accurate.  I feel certain that had I been using a commercial grade GPS today, I might have been just a little better off.  But, I don't think I would have learned what I learned today.  I'm too old to change.  I'll stick to the map.  :2vrolijk_21:

Blistering here in Oklahoma again today -- officially I think it was 102.  Went to town (OKC) to see a friend in the hospital.  Man is it ever hot with all that concrete when you have to stop at a light.

Riding to a funeral Monday about 150 miles each way.  Fortunately, we are heading out at 6:00 am.  The ride home will be a hot one!

Looks like we will get a break by Friday -- forcast shows back down to 97 on Friday.....yea (I think?)

Too hot today.  That was for sure.  Took the red bike the 20 miles or so to a paint shop to pick something up.  Passed two thermometers on the way through town.  One showed ambient 105 and one showed 104.  Hot wind.  Hot hotness.  Bike did fine on the little jaunt.  I nearly wilted.  Think I'd rather do 30 degrees than this.  I know I'd rather do 45 than this.

No doubt about it, Don...there's no way to get cool when it's this hot, but I can usually put enough on to stay warm.  This chit is miserable and I'm tired of it!!  Can't even get a bit of rain to wet the dirt down and cool things off 3 or 4 degrees.  The A/C systems all have their tongues hanging out just trying to keep up.

It really was a miserable nearly hour's ride.  I was stupid enough to make it worse too.  Was in a hurry, little time to spare, so did something I just never do.  Hopped on the bike with a pair of shorts on.  So it was hot on the outside and broiling on the inside.  Likely have never before looked so much like a chicken doing a forward facing strut as when stopping at stop lights this afternoon.

Talon...since I can't afford a double wide, can I just get a single wide and park in your back yard?  I could live with the cold/snow in the winter, as I would just go fast down the ski slopes and park the scooter.  I promise I'll keep your scooter Glared, fluids fresh, etc.  Suzanne and I aren't much trouble.... ;D ;)

Oh, don't rub it in.  104 her in Oklahoma today.  Heat index will probably top out at around 110.  Forcast shows a cool down for tomorrow...only 101.

I need to be stinking rich so I can spend the winters in Cancun and then come to your house for the summer.

You know, I might be able to afford to do that if I would stop buying $expensive$ bikes and all the chrome stuff. :nixweiss:

If Al had just concentrated on inventing the internet, he would not have had time to invent global warming.

Living in Florida, its always warm so heat is just a matter of degrees.

Rain would be VERY WELCOME here in Oklahoma!  Hot & Dry Oklahoma.  At least the rain would cool things down a little bit.

As much as I hate to say it rain would be welcomed here too. Local city/county administrators just put us under drought restrictions of which the main one that concerns me is "No Washing of Vehicles except in licensed commercial vehicle wash facilities". I can't wash/detail my bike at home until restrictions are lifted. :( We need rain bad!!!!

We've been under that for a couple of months now, Gary.  I don't waste water on watering the grass, I just let it go dormant like it does in the winter time, so I figure a quick wash of the scooter, and the small amount of water I use doing so, conserves a lot more than those who are still watering their lawns every third night or whatever they are allowing.  I've got one of those pistol grip nozzles with about 6 different settings, so little is wasted.

Only problem here is they will ticket/fine you if you are caught using water in ways you aren't supposed to. Funny thing after they did the restrictions today we had a heck of storm come thru. :nixweiss:

Yep, washed my scooter today before a fun run up to Deal's Gap tomorrow.  I pushed it our on the lawn and figured the waste water from washing the bike would water the grass in that area.  Pretty smart for a ole scooter tramp, huh?  ;) har!  :huepfenjump3: spyder

Was 104 here today in Charlotte.

We normally go to bike night on Wednesday evening.
Even with the sun down it was stiffling.
On the way home at 8:30 the weather band said it was still 95 degrees!

Give me AC!

 :nixweiss:

Just thought I would ressurect this thread to remember warmer times.  Awoke this morning to 18 degrees and the thought of pulling out in the morning at o'dark thirty for Daytona is a bone chilling thought.  Reminder to self, don't complain about the heat this summer!

Yeah, just can't make us happy ;D

It is the extremes that get me.  If we could have overnight lows of 65 degrees and daytime high temps of about 80 degrees, I would have to find something else to complain about.

69 degrees here in Oklahoma right now....pretty nice for February.  Forcast temps are in the low 70's for the weekend, but another cool down on Monday back to the 40's.

Springtime has to be getting close...I've heard frogs croaking down by the pond behind the house for the past few evenings.
