Weird: the tranny cracked in a perfect circle around the bearing case, like some kinda 'steel-cast gasket'; I am told the Michigan tranny seepage problem discussed above, in the dye penetrator test, revealed hairline cracks in the same pattern.

Hmm...

Originally wanted the Baker DD6, however waited too long to order, told would be about 2 weeks. Now have installed the SE HD 6 Speed, wanted to put in Redline Heavy Duty Shock Proof Frank (HIPPO) suggested I stay with the Harley Davidson Semi Synthetic Tranny Fluid for now just in case something happens to the tranny and Harley finds tranny fluid other than theirs, they can not blame the problem if any, on non factory fluids.  So far runs great, no 6th Gear Noises, mind you still breaking in engine done by Short Block Charlies redone 103" Vortec heads with the S&S 585 cams. Can tell you this it is very impressive.

Should be dynod at Chosas in Phoenix within the next few weeks.

I had the six speed put in a while back, but have only in the last two days got to really try it out.  I found that if you are truly cruisin, it is awesome, but coming through Atlanta with everyone gunnin for me, I never got out of 4th or 5th at anywhere from 65 to 85 mph. When you wind out 5th gear, you are definately looking for 6th more than I used to be, so I got to think that 5th gear is not all that it used to be. When in 6th gear cruising at 70- 80, and you want to pass somebody, or do something that you know your bike can do, if you are in 6th, you can't, if you give it the gas it will eventually start to take over... it takes awhile, it takes it own time.   At 75 in 6th, you nearly feel like you are going to lug the motor, it is that much of a difference.  I will be able to tell you more in seven weeks on the return trip, I will have less things nagging at me and more time to think about it. Have fun for those of you riding, just met three guys from SD who trucked to AL to the school we are all attending.  It looks like a good 7 week boon doggle.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure work will be done, but when possible, I will continue further studies for the benefit of the group! [smiley=beerchug.gif]

what would br the benefit of getting the gearset over the whole tranny.
gearset is 1799.00 the tranny is 2500.00.
how much do you think they want to install each of them?
i am liking the idea of changing to a 3.37 final ratio.
just don't know whats a better choice.

According to some whether you get the H-D or the Baker(and the Baker seems to be the preference of some) the advantage to getting the whole tranny is the ability to sell the 5 speed and recoup some of the expense.
Mike

i don't sell anything to recoup.
maybe i should. i have a garage full of parts.

650.00 to install? does this sound right?
it comes to around 2250.00
thats without changing to the 24/37
