Howie, Scott or anyone else who has or might be getting Axtells jugs here's a very small potential issue to keep in mind.  Had most of an hour to mess with the bike tonight so set the cylinders back on and torqued the heads.  After doing that went to put the little chrome cylinder base cover accessory back on.  It no longer fit.

The larger base or girdle of the Axtell jugs is the problem.  It protrudes out more than the stock jugs.

When you try to use this its center "nose" that fits between the cylinders makes contact.  This keeps the part's backside from mating flush against the engine case as it normally would.  If you tightend up the center bolt it'd break the chrome accessory cover.

Need to use a 1/4" spacer between the chrome part and the case.  That fills the newly created void perfectly.

With that it tightens up nicely.  Things line up as they should.  And all seems ok.

One potential caveat though.  Moving this cover out a 1/4" might get you awfully close to the shifter.  Especially in the rear.  With this shifter linkage I've got it was already spaced out close to 1/4" inch for better mounting.  If that weren't so the shifter would be very very close to the cylinder base cover.

Don,

I had not encountered this issue because I don't have this cover... But, now that you have pointed out the cover...I am going to have to acquire it.  Who makes the cover?  Kuryakyn?  Someone else?

Scott, am relatively sure I remember Kuryakyn offering a similar part.  But that 32753-01 number is a Harley part number.

Don,

Thanks for the info. My jugs are at Axtell being finished now. I talked with Chaz about the problem you encountered so hopefully thats been nip in the bud. Now I may have to get one of these chrome base covers. However the book says this part will not fit the 07 - 08. Not sure what they changed so it wouldn't fit...... Of course the book may be wrong,.......again.

Did this part cover your diamond cuts along the bottom of the base of the cylinder?

And then there's Howie, who doesn't GAS about that cover at all! He happens to love the way those burly cylinder bases look just the way they are! ::) :o ;D

BTW, he doesn't care about that new inner primary web hider cover that you glue on either! :P

JW

It covers about one row or band of the diamond cut.  There are three rows of the daimond cutting at the base of each cylinder.  This cover covers most of the bottom row.  In fact I was tempted to leave it off.  Laid on eyes with the cover there and without.  Still like it better with the cover there.

Kuryakyn has a part to do this for the newer model engines if Harley does not yet.  Have seen it in their catalog.  It's their number 8393.

Howie, I like those big cylinder bases also.  If I didn't already have the cover hiding the wimpy stock cylinder bases I'd likely not have added it to these.  But it was already here.  And it does cover the bare area of the top of the engine cases and hide the VIN.

I have a very silly question?? Are the Axtell Cylinders replacement Cylinders for the Stock 110 cylinders from Harley. If they are what is the big difference and will they hold up for the life of the motor? I have a 08 SEUC that just started to weep on the rear jug cylinder head and I am getting ready to deal with Harley on correctly fixing it or if they can't and wont I wanted to go to different cylinders and a different cam. The other alternative is to slap a JIMS 120 in. Need clarafication. 8) 8) 8) 8)

The Axtell cylinders are the replacement cylinders of choice by those of us that have decided to repair our leaking 110's without the MOCO's assistance.  We have decided MOCO's solution is crap - and have gone down our own road for what we hope is a much more robust correction of the problem.
