Installed a engine guard oil cooler to my 09SERG in series with the HD premium oil cooler, oil tank temps have dropped 15* at the tank so can only guess that the engine is now cooler, feels like it anyway. All stock motor with only the full sac 2.25" baffles. also cleaned up that ugly hose running across the chrome regulator. No drop in oil pressure and the engine runs much quieter. The engine guard gets real hot and I would no suggest this to those that run lowers. Very happy with the install. Doc

Total cost about $25.00 Would have liked to use steel but brass is all I could find local will change the silver worm clamps for some black ones I have had to order. Total time about 2 hrs, the longest time was cleaning out the engine guard after drilling and tapping. Doc

The plus side to this mod is it adds a extra qt. of oil to the oil system. Bike now holds 4 1/2 qts. Doc

Very nice and simple idea...

Does anyone have a fair idea of how the clear-coat/paint on the lowers of my cuse2 would stand up to the 250-to-300 degree temps of the oil, being dissipated from the engine guard?

I would not use this with the lowers, guard get to hot, you cannot keep your hand on it, get burned real fast. Doc

You can not see them in the pics , but there is also a drain screw on each side of the engine guard under the 90* elbows. Doc

Hey Doc,

This is a wonderful idea - its truly innovative.

First: You may be sitting on a million dollar idea - hint, hint could be patented and sold. But someone interested in doing this (MOCO) probably already took your idea and is working on it.

Second: As far as using lowers, you may be correct in not recommending folks try this with their lowers but I know on the post 2008 bikes, the cross over pipe ran really close to left side panel (painted). Side panels are made from the same material as the lowers and the side panel never had any ill affects from the cross over pipe heat.

Just throwing this out but again Doc, great idea.

Not my Idea, so I will not take credit for it. I just improved it over the years. Thanks Doc. Mybe the lowers could be insulated in some fashion. I have never used them so really do not know.

That would be the ONLY way to go. I ran the crashbar oil cooler for a year and it worked better than any of the regular ones in that it lowered the oil temps the most. But the bar got so hot it melted the paint and plastic where it contacted the lowers. I could not touch the inlet side without a glove. The outlet side was hot to the touch but not scalding. If you were to brush bare skin up against it your would get a stinging burn. If I were to do it again, I would wrap the crash bar contact areas in exhaust wrap.

This is a Pic of the mag drain plugs I used, snaged the pic from another tread the plug is all that is used not the steel bits. Doc

You have got to be kidding me!!!!! This weekend it never got above freezing and we had snow showers yesterday and this morning as well. I still walk around in crocs and shorts!!!!!!!

Had always planned to do that, but now that I am adding a chrome primary I would be afraid of the chrome peeling from the hole.

I Had forgotten about this until I just read it here. Some time ago I had purchased a take off inner primary form a 05 SEEG and had intended to drill the hole, clean it up a bit and have it chromed. It's still sitting in the basement where I put it for safe keeping, and forgot about it

Don't think I could live their long enough to get cold... The constant humidity would kill me even with temps in the mid-80's. I'd be miserable and either shoot myself or somebody ele!
