Harley Detachable saddlebags
« on: November 17, 2009, 10:21:56 AM »

Hi guys, I've been told that the HD detachable bags 88238-07  will fit my 09 springer because I have V&H big radius pipes and not the stock ones...:nixweiss:  Has anyone tried these coz I need more luggage room than the rally pack gives and dont want to ruin my rear fender?:confused5:
Cheers

That particular model the 88238-07 in the catalogue specifies that is not for FXSTSSE 2/3 so it doesn't matter the size of your pipes…can you let me know if those are the ones to buy and who told you they were going to fit, because I am looking for a pair of them myself that are detachable and I like the look of them....
Thanks.

Forgot to ask if anybody had already bought a pair of detachable bags for a Springer CVO 2009 and what’s the part number…
Thanks…

Mark, from the fitting instructions pdf you can see where the docking points on the fender struts are, i would suggest accurately measuring the distance between your fender strut bolts and compare the measurement with those on a bike that is listed as compatible in the kit. Also measure the relationship of the rear passenger foot pegs to the fender strut mountings, as stated you will also require detachable hardware docking kit and turn signal relocation kit,

as with everything things can be made to fit, but might require drilling holes in the correct places in the fender struts which you probably wouldnt be prepared to do.

These are the Harley Detachable , Had to use 4 different mounting kits for the parts. think I posted on this with part numbers, let me check thru all of my posts to see if I can put a shortcut here.

Thanks Nigel,
my local dealer reckons the 88238-07 bags will fit with the docking kit and indicator relocation kit as you mention....They reckon they have already fitted some to a CVO Springer ..Im paying them to fit all the hardware so we'll see if it fits...If they do, I'll post the part numbers that were used here as they may be of help to some other members of the forum

you might try boss bags, they have a direct fit (or so they told me) for my 08, haven't wanted to part with the $1100 for them, i did see them in Daytona and they looked like real nice bags, just another idea.... www.bossbags.com

Another choice is offerred at http://ccsaddlebags.com/
I found larger capacity than the stock bags here.
I have had good luck using them and the www.easybrackets.com detachable mounting products.

Yes ...At last!!!! !

Finally there now have the 2400 ltr detachable bags fitted and they look awesome!..Far better than I would've thought or expected! :pineapple:
Ok briefly it wasnt quite a straight forward fit but looking at it now you'd think it was!
Firstly the indicator relocation kit isn't wide enough to go over the fender strut!..So went to a local engineering firm and had one fabricated to fit...Secondly the steel support bar on the back of the bags had to be cut, shortened and welded back together and painted!
But I have to say all worthwhile and looks soooo cool! and now gives me proper storage that I can remove in 30 seconds when I get to a rally and ride around on my clean clutter free springer!..Fab :2vrolijk_21:
I'll post a few pics on here as soon as I download them from my camera..But any questions just give me a shout

I am thinking that the bags from the 2010 SE convertable will be able to be fitted to the springers  or these fat boy bags 88306-07 will prob also fit

Yes Im sure they would...I only chose these as they were the biggest that Harley did!....I reckon most softail detachable bags could work.... probably would just be a case of cutting down the rear support bar to size....check out where the indicators are too as they may need to be pushed backward.
Ferry booked now for Lugano...Getting slightly more excited as I sit here looking out at the pouring rain!
