30T Harley Tri-Glide vs 30T Andrews
« on: January 28, 2012, 03:16:08 PM »

Okay time has passed now and all you CVO riders that have made the swap outs to 30T pulleys.  Which is the perferred 30T pulley set up?  Harley being wider and less expensive and Andrews being stock with and more expensive.  Which one should one install?

Thanks in advance for all replays and inputs.

I was going to replace my Andrews to the HD Tri Glide 30T sprocket this winter because of a new belt that left me stranded.  After advice from Steve from Fullsac I kept the Andrews and replaced the failed aftermark Falcon belt with an OEM and have been just fine since then.  If I had to do it all over again, Heaven forbid I would be more concerned with the belt than the sprocket as neither sprocket has been associated with the breakage problem.   If you read all the post you will find the main issue for breakage was mostly non OEM belts although another sprocket was brought up, go with the Andrews or the Tri Glide sprocket with a Gates OEM belt and your good to go.  If I could not find an OEM (Gates) belt to fit and I still wanted the 30t conversion I would modify the swingarm as Steve did.  The guy knows his stuff.

This has been discussed to death- for the 2009's and newer, there is no such HD belt. The closest you will come is the Gates Poly chain 139T x 1". Gates is supposed to be the manufacturer of HD's belts.

I have an 08 so I can use the 136T OEM belt which has 2 part numbers, one is for the Sportster and one is for the big V Twins for international or overseas use.  You would have to read all the info regarding your belt length vs OEM availability as the 09 is different.  I can't speak for anyone else but I will not experiment with anything other than the OEM unless someone discovers a better one.

Okay folks:  let's get back on track here as this thread did not ask anything of which belt to use!   What wasasked is Which is the perferred 30T pulley set up?  Harley being wider and less expensive and Andrews being stock width and more expensive.  Which one should one install?

Thank you all again!

To me this is a no brainer.  The Tri-Glide part is OEM and also has the added advantage of being more economical.  If there was something about an Andrews or Baker that was really a significant improvement in the real world, maybe the price difference could be justified.  I don't see it.

I'm agree with Jerry. My service mgr who I have great confidence in said to use the H-D Tri glide 30t on my '07 and I did. Works fine and much less expensive.

Not saying it could be an issue, but the only thing that bugs me about the Tri Glide pulley vs Andrews is that the Tri Glide pulley is a bit wider than the stock (and Andrews) 1" pulleys.

Like I said there's been nothing to say it's a problem, but personally that bugs me a bit.
