Here are things I know:  The Thundermax is not supported very well outside of a few shops that use it.  In the past, there were issues with customer service from the makers of the Thundermax.  You still must start out with a decent base map for it to work well (unless that has changed in recent iterations of the device).  You are replacing the HD ECM with the Thundermax, which makes warranty claims very easy to deny.  While even tinkering with the exhaust system and tuning the bike can technically void the warranty (depends on which dealer you go to), it would be harder for the MOCO to deny warranty coverage for something that 90% of HD buyers/owners do to their bikes.  Replacing the entire ECM on a brand new bike...while it may never cause a problem...a stronger case could be made to deny warranty work on the engine or other things controlled by the ECM if you are using a completely different product  Screamin' Eagle Pro Race Tuner, or TTS Mastertune modifies the existing ECM, and can be undone relatively easily, plus it's something that is done all the time by the dealers themselves.  I don't know of any dealer who would replace the ECM with a Thundermax.  It is highly unlikely that they would do so, no matter how much money you threw at them.

That's my opinion.  I have to be concerned about my warranty, and some people are not at all concerned.

MIDNIGHTRIDER: gave you some very sound advice.  I had the Thundermax TBW system on my 2010, 8,653 miles later I was still trying to get rid of the low RPM lag.  As the above thread stated, customer service and tech support is totally disinterested in really offering any help.  Personally, I would stay away from the system unless you have a shop that sells and knows how to tune the system effectively.  Thats how I got sucked into buying it for my 2010.  My previous bike ran like a champ, but the inital base map was tuned and designed by someone that knew their chit.  I have a TTS on this bike and this site is an electronic manual on how to and what to do.  I had a member offer to remote into my PC to help me Vtune my bike!  Do your homework, it's very annoying riding a $35,000.00 bike that you know your not getting 100% from!

If you search the board, you'll find quite a bit about the T-Max.

I had one - for a while - on my 07 CUSE2 It's not an exercise I'll be repeating, but your mileage may vary.....

I had one on my last bike. In short, it's a good device but few people know how to tune it. Forget about any tech support from Zippers. If you call and James Ramsey answers the phone just hang up. He's as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Like others he talks down to the customer. If you really want to buy it, I can direct you over to the gurus on Harley Tech Talk who helped me tweak and tune my map.

"Auto-Tune" is far from automatic or foolproof, regardless of the BS they throw around in the ads.  You already have a much more competent and reliable ECM from Delphi, I'd suggest you just get it tuned with something like the TTS MasterTune device and software.  Save the original stock calibration as explained in the instructions, and if you get any blowback from a dealer on warranty just restore the ECM to stock.  It's about the best approach I know of for a new bike still in warranty.

As for Zipper's, I second and third the opinions expressed earlier about their lousy tech support and customer service.  If you are set on a so-called auto tune device, you might be better off looking at the system from Revolution Performance.  There are some threads around here about that one.

Jerry, as much as I strongly prefer what Revolution Performance is doing with their EMS package within the stock ECM compared to Thundermax (or anything else out there now for that matter) they still haven't delivered the product for 2011 and newer bikes yet.  So this gent won't have the option.  At least not yet.

I used the Tmax on my 09 for about a year.  I liked it.
Throttle response was immediate and more cable like.  I never had any issues with the Tmax and have not sold it because I may still go back to it.
I had an chance to get a great deal on a RP EMS and wanted to try it out.  Not an option for your bike yet so I won't bother with my opinions on the EMS and I really have not had it long enough to form an opinion.
James Ramsey is no longer there or if he is, he no longer speaks with customers.  He was a giant A-hole!
There are many negative opinions here on the Tmax, some of those MAY be based upon earlier versions I don't know.
The last few times I used Zippers support they were very helpful.
Do some homework as there are lots of options and you may find something else that will fit your needs...but IMHOP I would not rule out the Tmax.
Good Luck.

I don't have a TMax on my bike but I am helping a buddy figure out what is wrong with his TMax on his 07 SE Ultra.  It isn't talking to the IAC motor. I don't really know for sure that it's the TMax's fault but I did send it back to Zippers to have it looked at. I do like the software and the user capabilities so far.

I have had great customer service from TMax so far.  I'm not endorsing the product but I just wanted people to know that my experience with customer service has been great!  I've been dealing with Randy.

I can say that both times I was cussing my Tmax and pointing the finger at that as the problem, it turned out to be something completely unrelated.  Imagine how many phone calls they
must receive from people assuming their Tmax is a problem when they have an exhaust leak or intake leak or something else.

I agree!

Randy suggested a few things for me to check and in the end he had me send him the TMax.  I hope that's the problem or I'm stuck.

no matter how you cut the bread

if you change the ecm out to a aftermarket ecm on a new bike - there is NO WAY you will ever get warranty work. as long as you dont care about the warranty and the money is no object its all good, its your bike do what you want.

but if you have the bux to not care about the warranty - why not take the bike to a really reputable tuner/builder and have it done right the first time?

Just buy a TTS MasterTune unit and the cables, and TUNE the map in your H-D ECM correctly with it. The TTS instructions are very comprehensive, and with it you can get the map to within a gnat's eyebrow of ideal using the Datamaster data collection software and the VTune calibration software. Much better to get your map correct for your intake, exhaust, and cam setup - tuned to YOUR specific engine precisely. No two engines are exactly alike - even if they are identically equipped. Two bikes with the same components will need different maps - because there are always small differences in the manufacturing tolerances of the parts on the bikes. No two engines ever breathe exactly alike...
