575 cam
« on: October 27, 2006, 07:31:44 PM »

JK,
Since I have many people use the 575 "bolt in" cam as upgrade, and since I am not wrench proficient, what else do you need to perform the upgrade ( re: gear drive, pump, lifters, pushrods, bearing, gasket, and bypass shim for instance)? thanks john

What is the year/model and mileage of your bike?  What exhaust will you be using?  JK

it is an 06 SE UC. Use the V&H true dual.

Gear drive if you want to eliminate the tensioners, although crankshaft pinion shaft runout should checked and be no more than .003" (.002" or less is best); any more will be noisey.  Gear drives in general can be noisier than the chains, a trade-off for peace of mind about the tensioners.  At 4K miles, I think your lifters will be fine to re-use.  For sure, replace the cam bearings, especially the inners with Torrington brand.  As far as the pump and shim goes, the Feuling pump does scavenge better than the factory unit, by all means replace it if it's in the budget.  If not, the shim should be used if hot idle pressure is low (barely moving the gauge) with the stock pump.  The shim is not needed if hot idle pressure is good.  JK

JDK,
finished install of all parts (575cam, fueling oil pump/lifters, cam gear drive, bearing, bypass shim, and pushrods). What kind of "performance" specs should I expect with dyno tuning? also is there a map using this with SERT and V&H dresser duals/oval slip ons? thanks John

We don't tune with race tuner, only ThunderMax.  I've attached a few dyno charts for you to view, quite a few others have posted their results on this thread:

thanks,
I found one with similar pipes with torque in low 100's and HP 92 to 95. Had quick dyno done but figures disappointing low (HP in 80's and torques in low 90's and appeared to me that AF was not constant).  Will try to find new dyno shop in jax area or possibly daytona beach if need be. thanks for your response. John
