The next step is expensive! There are many builds on here with dyno sheets to back them up, but none are cheap. The successful ones have addressed all the other aspects of the motor also. Whatever you do to the top of the motor(headwork, compression)affects the bottom end and drivetrain longevity. Best bet is to find a competent builder and explain your budget and expectations and he can devise a game plan that will make you happy. Good luck!

60k from the second 110 in my '07 before it ate itself due to lifter failure.  Only got 22k on my '12 before a failed lifter took that motor out.  My '07 has about 8k on the replacement motor and I'm having S&S premium lifters and the SE cam bearing installed now as preventative maintenance.  My ESP just expired so I don't want this motor to last a while, hopefully.   :2vrolijk_21:

Seems like the average is right around 60,000 miles, I also had 60,000 on FLHTCUSE4.

This is absolutely the best way to do it.

The SE Stage Kits are good, but they do not "address the other aspects" of the motor

My experience has been over the last 4 TC engines is replace the stock lifters at 20,000 miles.  It's just good maintenance.  Have been riding Harley's for since about 1960 and lifters have always been a maintenance item.  Pan heads, shovel heads, and evo's not exception.  In the old days there were few after market options like there are now.  Change them and change oil yourself on a regular basis so you can personally inspect the oil and drain plug magnet and you shouldn't have any problems.  Air cooled engines are different beasts.  JMO

I terms of HP/TQ I've seen some pretty strong builds for 117ci come out of Fuel Moto.  They do upgrade the lower end when doing this.  Think I saw one recently over 130/130.

My 08 FLHTCUSE3 has 102,000 miles and
- on my 4th compensator
- on my second set of lifters, 1st set lasted 40,000 miles and were replaced with stock lifters under ESP
- just replaced: cams (hard surface worn thru), oil pump (just because), lifters (one was shot, this set had 60k miles), chain tensioners (looked okay - were originals, both cam chain and primary), cam bearings

Runs like new....always used Syn3 in all holes.....uses about 1/2 quart between oil changes (every 5000 miles, except tranny - 10k miles).  Some of that oil is carryover (have stage 1 AC, Rinehart true duals since new)....I wipe out carryover every 500 miles to avoid wetting the air filter element.

Yeah, she always has brought me home.  But I did trailer her from home to my dealer this last time with the bad lifter.  Now with the cam chest and primary rejuvenated, I'm ready to rock'n'roll!

Pretty much the same, start getting kickback and/or grinding at startup.  Then at shutdown, hear a loud clunk from the primary.  Ramps just wear out - I'd see a fair bit of iron on the primary magnetic drain plug at every oil change.  They now have made another revision to the design for "better lubrication" of the comp.  We'll see....after 30k or so I could start hearing the clunk.  I don't understand why HD can't build a comp....I had a Kaw with a 125" motor and never had a hiccup with the comp - kept it 75,000 miles before trading for an Indian.

Re. compensator, my buddy's streetglide had a bad compensator that started to fail in less than 20k miles.  Same sympoms, kick back and clunking noise.  Classic.  Replaced with a SE comp and all was well.  I think the comp problem is the result of bigger engines/builds and old comp design.  The first compensator I can remember was on my 1956 pan.  Bet it hasn't changed much over the years.  :)

The original comp on my 110 lasted about 30K, then the next comp was called a SE comp with heavier springs and longer ramps, then the next comp had grooves for lube, now this revison has a plastic piece to direct lube to the comp....and so it goes!  I have a great dealer and they did a bunch of things for no charge, even after ESP was gone.  They're the best in my book.

Mine didn't do what yours did. It started to kind of make a howling noise and got worse. I had the first revision installed at 20k roughly and it is still in there at 40K with a 131. I will keep an eye on it thanks.

50 MPG!  The best I have ever got on any TC engine is about 48.  My CVO Ultra gets about 45 on a good day!  And I'm not heavy handed on the throttle.
