2007 or 2008 Seat Replacement Ideas
« on: August 11, 2014, 02:33:18 AM »

I’m looking for pictures and reviews on these seats that’s on your SERK 07/08.  Sorry no studded seats

End of June I rode my FLHRSE3 2400 miles to Denver and back, plus going back into CO. mountains many days.  The original seat after 60 miles SUCKED!!!  The guy that I bought the bike from was a big guy… 6’-5” maybe 260lbs and he put 17k miles on it.  The seat is done for.  I've changed the paint job, but not the seat.

So far these are the two I really do LIKE!:
Harley Davidson Sundowner Smooth Deep Bucket Seat.  Part Number 51726-05
      http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/sundowner-deep-bucket-seat-pa-16-5172605--1

Mustang Sport Touring One-Piece Smooth Seat, No Studs Harley-Davidson® FLHRS Road King. Part Number: 75858
      http://www.mustangseats.com/Product/75858/Sport-Touring-One-Piece-Smooth-Seat-No-Studs-Harley-Davidsonreg-FLHRS-Road-King

I’ve beaten the living hell out of this topic on the computer and really do like these two seats, but any other seat ideas would be nice.  With Pics.  Want to use the factory back rest.

Thank you for the help.

I would check out a Corbin seat and depending on you budget, consider the two piece set with backrests. This will give you a "one up" look for cruisin' nights and a full "two up" option when riding with a BSR. I have this on my bike and enjoy having a different "look" now and then, and the comfort is terrific.

Any other 07 or 08 SERK owners that have changed their seats out there?

Please chime in…

Factory back rest limits your options.

I have the Corbin dual tour heated seat which works great for me. Little hard at first, but then it seems to feel real good. Should give it a look.

I put a Sundowner on my '07 and it is much better than the stock seat.  Although I'm still ready to get off by then the 600 miles home from Sturgis is fairly easy as far as the seat is concerned.  The wife says the back portion is a lot better too.  Being able to use a larger backrest helps too.

On my 08 SERK I use the two piece Mustang.  I have the one with the back rest and modified it with a longer bolt to move the back rest towards the tank.  My wife use the medium size pillion with a back rest or the tour pak.  It may not be the best for everyone but it works well for us.  I'm 5'7" & 200# wife is about 120#.   There are days when I wish I had a heated seat, but not to many.  The stock seat sucks and I'm sure the first owner of your bike didn't help it with his weight.  Time for a change.

I have a Saddleman Road Sofa. Hardly used, comes with rider backrest and heated seats. I would have kept it but it was too tall for my 5'6" frame.

I’m finally return with results…

After my original post I was leaning to the Mustang Sport Touring One-Piece Smooth Seat, No Studs Harley-Davidson® FLHRS Road King. Part Number: 75858.  I procrastinate and time goes by, my ass still hurts when riding 60 miles.  Apparently, cussing about my ass hurting was easier than dealing with the issue.  Then I finally decide to get the 75858 which is made for the FLHRS and I find out that Mustang stopped making it.  Discontinued, just Great!

After talking to Mustang and a supplier I learned the Mustang Number: 75486 will fit.  The only thing that was different was that the nose of the seat sits over the tank more.  The seat was longer than the 75858. This was nice because it cover more of the wiring that’s coming out of the dash at the bottom.

This Mustang Number: 75486 One-piece sport touring seat FITS a FLHRSE3.  It nicely covers the wiring at end of the tank and dash.  It does move you forward about 1.5” to 2” forward and about 1.5” higher in the seat.  That was a wake-up call at first.  Everything about the bike seemed different being moved forward and higher some.  My head sits slightly higher so I get more breeze over the windshield.  It’s a slightly different stance sitting at a light.  The ride is much more comfortable NOW!!!  This seat just holds your ass in place.  Even friends that wanted to try the new seat said the same thing.  They liked how the seat just grabs a hold of your ass and keeps it in place.   Friends that’s shorter than me, like the bike even more.  It wasn’t like the original that sat very low, more back, and you slid around in the seat.  When I sat in the old seat it rub on the right side saddle bag lid and side cover on the right.  I’m 5’-10” and only weight 185 lbs.  Sitting back more was very comfortable, but it’s what I got used to.  Plus the seat was way too thin, that why my ass hurt at 60 miles.

Now after 6 months looks like I’m going to keep this new Mustang 75486 seat.  I’ve gotten used to the feel of the new ride, because it is comfortable, and especially how it holds your ass in place.  Plus, the wife is no longer complaining about the seat when she rides with me. I liked the sport style seat so I’m going to have the old seat custom recovered for a single rider.  As you can see in the picture, the factory back rest doesn’t work right anymore.  It sits back too far.  I’m going to have it custom covered with thicker padding.  This new seat is so comfortable that I haven’t really missed the back rest which I used to use all the time.

Hope this helps!

Factory back rest will not work.  It now sits too far back.

After you put 3k or so on it, no going back......the long nose will rub the tank. That's no biggie if you like the seat!!

I will keep an eye on it.  Hopefully it doesn't.  If it does start rubbing the tank, something will have to be done!
