Derby cover
« on: December 24, 2006, 07:47:46 AM »

Imagine most of us like to save our goodies from previous bikes to put on our new rides.  Just a heads up that the chrome derby cover screws from previous twin cam models will not fit the new '07 engines.  Luckily I checked the part numbers before attempting to exchange them or I might have screwed up badly.  Even had the parts guy verify it.  He was surprised and did not know (a very experienced guy).  Cover itself is also different part number even though it looks the same.  When I took the cover off at my first fluid change to add the primary oil I compared the screws.  '07s where considerable larger & longer.

thanks
but is the derby cover itself the same??
I'm hoping yes - I'm having a spare one painted with a custom design and now I'm afraid ti's not going to fit!

Nevative Brad.  That's what I was saying, the derby cover itself is a completely different part number from pre-07 models.  I also have a special derby cover from the HOG Posse ride that won't fit my '07. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jerry,
You may want to call H.O.G. and see if they can switch it out, or at least make them aware of this in case you were planning on purchasing one for the '07 Posse Ride you and Jorge are doing. Knowing how sometimes the left hand doesn't talk to the right hand at the MoCo :o you may save H.O.G. a lot of headaches making them aware that there is a difference in these covers starting w/the '07 model scooters. Genuine P&A catalog indicates that all '99 up derby covers wil fit with the following caveat:

'06-later Dyna™ and '07 Softail® and Touring models require the separate purchase of gasket P/N 25416-99C.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.  The '07 derby cover has a completely different type gasket from what I recall from my '06.  Maybe the physical size / hole spacing pattern are the same.  The screws are most definitely different.
