First ride
« on: August 02, 2008, 04:28:00 PM »

Took delivery to day and did about 75 miles w/ the BSR. As expected we were pleased w/ the ride and as is typical there were some surprises. 1) Even keeping it under 3 grand the sucker moves. No comparison to the 2000 SERG (110 vs. 95). Twist the wrist and you're just gone. 2) Baby is smooth shifting. Syn 3 in all 3 so things will only get better once it's dumped but the 6 speed was very easy to operate w/ the exception of finding N. That was the same on my '05 SEEG so no that will get better. 3) Paint. Was very impressed w/ the color as seen under the florescnets and man oh man how great it was once the sunlight hit it. Gold metal flake really pops outside. Also, RED striping really looks good to me. The 00's eagle head was much more distinctive but this ain't bad at all. 4) I actually liked the seat. 75 miles is no test but clearly it will do better the the stock SEEG's. Will liked it as well. 5) Ride quality was very good but needs some attention. Not sure how much air is in the rear but I'll be fiddling w/ that to see what's what. That aside, we went over several sets of RR tracks, once much faster that I realized, and it handles them very well. 6) Straight line stability and cornering. Hell, it's a Road Glide. Goes straight when you want to and turns very easily at both low and higher speeds. 7) Sound system. Hard to say. It will play pretty loud but w/ all the wind noise I can't really give an accurate report yet. Which leads me to 8) the wind deflector is worthless except for the looks. A taller screen will be added very shortly and then I'll get serous about checking out the music. 9) Bling. This one's got it. Couple of stops and at the dealership most folks wanted to check it out. Chrome looks good (especially the whees) and did I mention the orange paint? Wow. 10) Tour pak. I missed it. Day to day stuff out of a saddlebag just doesn't compare to the ease of the tour pak.

All in all I thought it great and I've no remorse about trading in the '00 (well maybe just a little.) Need to get some serious miles on and do some tweaking before bringing in the jury but have every reason to believe that this one's a winner to me.

A$$ end. Like it better now than when I first saw it. Need to play w/ the tag set up a little and lose the reflector. Son rode behind me on this sunny day and said the lights were good.

Changing the exhaust results in daylight behind the motor where I'm not used to seeing it. Probably need a chrome starter.

Reddish paint actually looks really good. Makes it go faster too.

So I got in 75 miles. Really pleased in that short period. Rode easy and will do so until I've got some more miles on and then we'll really check out the get up and go. Tomorrow's to be a sunny day. Life will be good.

Thanks for the pics and ride report, Jim! :2vrolijk_21:  Boy, you can sure see the gold flake in the photo of the wind deflector! :shocked2:  I'm with you about the mirrors . . . . a set of the SEEG mirrors would probably look good, though.

The bike looks really good and does sorta make the old SERG look . . . . well, old.  Congrats on the new ride! :huepfenjump3:
