Friday the Road King was ridden. This morning it was the Road Glide's turn. So this evening when headed for a meal it was the FXR's turn to go. Hadn't been on it for maybe ten days. Needle was stuck in the seat. Again.
Anyone running carbs seeing this problem with modern fuels (I can only assume it's a fuel problem).
I got this bike a little over a year ago. It had sat for some time and the original CV wasn't fixable. It was an unrecoverable mess inside. So bought the little Mikuni.
Like the carb and the engine's performance with it installed. It dials in easily. But if the bike sits long enough for fuel to begin evaporating in the bowl way to often the needle sticks in the seat. Every time prior to today it had stuck closed. Today it was stuck open. So opened the petcock, started the bike, let it run for just a bit and look back to see fuel pissing out on the ground.
Has anyone had any luck with any fuel additive that would help avoid this with the modern fuels. If ethanol fuels were avoidable I would but.... no such luck.
Letting the bike fully cool back down right now. Will then grab another of my now spare needle and seat kits. Think barring any panacea from the brethren or wisdom from the Travel Gods may start running Sea Foam in the fuel; if for no other reason than just to see if it makes a difference.
Ok, back to the bike.....
