Didn't have a tach as standard equipment.  There were parts in the P&A catalog to add one.  Take a look at the following thread.  Might be beneficial.

Considered a tach when I first bought my 09 but doing fine w/o it, but I like the old school looks of the 07-08 tach that the link refers to, either way get the 07-08 riser studs.

Other alternative is the combo speedo/tach available for the FXSTSSE3, especially if you want to keep the handlebars clear or for other things.

Congratulations on a beautiful bike, I have a green 2009. You don't need a tach. Keep it clean and uncluttered. You should be able to tell when to shift based on your ears.

I went for the combo speedo/tach on my Green FXSTSSE3. Very happy with it and also allows me to put a screen on when I want to do a bit of touring

My FXSTSSE2 SPringer, 2008, has a tach as a factory installed standard feature.

As noted above, the '08 model came with the 2" tach kit from the catalog, but for whatever reason Harley didn't include it on the '09.  I don't know if you could still find the parts that came on the '08, but if you want to try here are the part numbers:

74658-05     KIT, 2 INCH TACHOMETER, CAN

69930-07     CLAMP, UPR 2 IN TACH

69931-07     CLAMP, LWR 2 IN TACH

Hi Berniemc,

The 07 and 08 CVO Springers came with the tachometer, but the 09 did not.

The 07 and 08 have a different handlebar than the 09, the 09 rises up higher, hence the reason the riser extensions did not come on the 09.

If you do decide to fit the tachometer on your 09 CVO Springer, you will need to fit the riser extensions to your risers otherwise the tachometer will hit your headlight bucket.

If you go to the 07 or 08 Springer parts catalogue you can order the parts for the tachometer. The wiring harness for the tachometer is under the fuel tank already on your 09 Springer, and the tachometer is easy to install as I have fitted one myself. I actually fitted the 08 Springer handlebar and risers to my 09 as I believe they are a better looking handlebar.
