Replacing the windshield?
« on: June 11, 2016, 01:11:51 PM »

Considering replacing the stock windshield on my 16 CVO Limited. Three choices I am looking at are Freedom Shields, Clearview Shields and Cee Baily. Anyone have opinions or experience with any of them? Good or bad.
I believe the stock shield is 10" and i look well over that as I am 6'2" . Figured i'd go with the same size or even a touch bigger perhaps. Don't want to be looking through it and don't want a huge windshield either. Just something to get the wind up and over my head if possible.
Thanks

Put the Soft Brake floorboard extensions and the extended brake pedal and shifters on and very happy with the choice.  Had to loose the brake pad and go to a smaller one but I'm happy with the look and function.

I have the 8" smoked Cee Baileys with the recurved top edge. I'm very pleased with it.

I have the 10in freedom shield and love it. I'm 6'6 and should have bought the 12in but didn't want to change the look. The curve is supposed to give you and extra 2in in deflection but the wind is catching me right on the forehead. It's thicker than stock, wider at the top, the edge is polished, crystal clear, and made in America. Not a great pic but you can kind of see the curve:

I recently changed to a 10" Freedom Shield in medium gray tint and like it quite well. Never tried the others referenced, but I'm pleased with what I purchased - much better than stock.

All 3 products you've listed are quality design... Have you considered looking @ a KlockWerks Flare? 6.5 or 8.5, they push the wind well.  :2vrolijk_21:

At 6'2" you'll probably want a 10".  Any of the lipped windshields (the recurve at the top) should work fine for you.  I have the 10" dark tint Windvest and I'm 6'4".  Windvest is the only one that I know of that's dark tint at 10".

There are many old threads discussing various windshield makers and choosing the right height etc.
I have always had great luck with Clearview.
Here is a link to their page on how to select the right height in case you missed it :
http://www.clearviewshields.com/blog/choosing-correct-shield-height/

In many of the older threads you will see where some members not only mention their overall height but also their pants inseam. That helps in figuring out if a person has a long torso or short one because you can have two riders with same overall height but one can sit "taller in the saddle" and their ideal shield height may be different then one rider who is lower.

I am 6'2" and went with the Freedom Shield 10" and am very happy with it.  I got a lot of head buffeting with the stock 2015 CVO Limited windshield. That little beveled upper area was just enough.

Have owned both CV & FS, both are better than stock. Clearview scratched, Freedom Shield did not.

Windshield height is rider subjective.  Depends on seating position and rider height.  I prefer mine to hit my line of sight at upper lip/tip of nose.  Not looking through it, just looking over it.  That can also vary by rider preference.

I got the Freedom 10" and it was so much better than stock. I did a lot of research and with so many people recommending it and they will allow you to return it (keep the plastic on it) after you try it and the size is wrong.  As mentioned above all the sites have a place to help you get the right size for your height and what you prefer.

Actually ordered the Freedom 9" and it's on the bike and it's awesome. Went with the dark grey and glad it did. Very happy with the shield . Very happy with the service from the vendor. Even the dealer commented on it's look and construction(width) saying he is going to recommend it for many other folks asking about replacement shields.
Thanks for the input here on the forum.

60% off sale at www.longrideshields.com . I was looking for a replacement for stock on my limited when I found them on sale  last labor day. I ended up buying one for both of my bikes. Very happy so far.

I went with the dark tint. You can see through it if needed and it is close to the faring wind deflectors color as well as matching it in width.
I'm sure you will be happy with what ever you choose.

I installed the Freedom 10 inch medium gray shield and rode the bike yesterday. Actually I'm not really impressed at all. I am leaving for Alaska in 6 days on the bike and will be heading out with the stock shield on. I actually have a glare/reflection in the center of the shield from the chrome dash. I will put it back on when I return and try it again for a few weeks!!!! If I don't like it someone will get a good deal on an almost new windshield!!!

Did you ride it around?  Maybe it was the light and just the right angle causing the reflection.  My dad had a 10" on his 2012 and I have the 10" on my 15. Only noticed a glare on a rare occasion. The light angle has to be just right. Definatly not a bother.
