road king TP on road glide ??
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:09:29 PM »

has anyone installed a leather road king tour pack on a road glide custom?? any thoughts/pics? was thinking about going this route as they seem to be readily available at a better price for no more than i plan to use it. i do have the 4 point docking mount, but need the mount for the TP, will it fit without looking like kaaka?

I did when I had my 09 SERG. Worked well, looked good and the back rest was functional. I ordered a CVO RK tour pack that had inlaid stitching, not sure what year now.

It's a different look, but I can't say I dislike it. It seems to create a lower profile of the bike due to it being "blacked out" so to speak and I like that aspect of it. H-D being H-D, it wouldn't surprise me to see the same combination offered as OEM someday

Functional yes.  IMHO, if you want functional AND better looking, I believe the color matched tour pak does that for you.  In particular, the chopped tour pak.  That's just me though and others have to do what makes them happy.

I would get a matching TP or if funds are an issue pick one up used and put a call into Gunslinger and have it painted to match (minus graphics) and you'll save about $600 from the $1499 price tag that HD wants.

No, but here is a picture of mine with a 2006/07 leather tour pak.

That don't look bad at all.  The seat and the tour pak all blend in together.

It was done for functionality.  It is the tour pak from my 06.  We usually run both bikes without any tour pak since I am not a fan of the tour pak look.  I only use it for two up riding when my wife and I want to be on one bike.  The Skunk is hers.

Dealership charged me $2300 for my custom painted TP. Wtf. We bought this bike so she can ride with me so I'm kinda stuck forking the cash over. Wife says do it right the first time. And HD doesn't give the colour mix to anyone.  So it's either they paint it or I risk not getting the perfect match.
