Most of us that use Redline in primary use Redline MTL.

Shockproof is a HEAVY GEAR OIL. Your clutch is a wet clutch and needs to be lubricated. I would run either HD primary, Redline MTL or a 20w50 syn motor oil, but I would never use a heavy gear oil in my primary.

But if you want to see your favorite Harley Mehcanic to reapir flush and install a new clutxh assembly GO AHEAD AND PUT IT IN!!!!!! On the good side it won't hurt anything but on the bad side the clutch won't release.

The single most important consideration for a primary lubricant is total compatability with the wet clutch.  I haven't found anything in Redline's literature that indicates the Shockproof products are compatible with a Harley wet clutch.

If you want to use a Redline product, go with the MTL or the V-Twin Primary lube, or with one of their synthetic automatic transmission fluids.  Auto trans fluids will definitely be compatible with a wet clutch, since the typical auto trans has several.

Thanks for the info regarding the redline fluids. I was wondering what the weight of the primary case fluid is that you are using? I am switching to redline for both my bikes (09SEUC Silver) and a 1995 Heritage with S&S 107 with IST ignition. Thanks CAHDBIKER

Have been using Redline in primary and Redline Shockproof in transmission.

Was using Mobile 1 (20-50) in motor.

Seemed to thinout a lot when hot.

I got great advice from a great motor man to change to the Redline for the motor also!

I Redline V-Twin Trans Oil in the trans, Redline V-Twin Primary Fluid in the Primary and have SYN 3 in the motor for the first two changes as I already had it, and if I have a problem with the engine early in life the dealer cannot question the oil.
The Trans and Primary fluids from Redline did make a big difference in operation and I would recommend it to anyone. When I am out of SYN 3 I will change motor to Mobil 1. Not sure why a lot of folks are changing to 15-60, I assume they think it is thicker or something but makes no sense to me. I will continue to use 15-50. It has done good for the last 80K in my other bikes so see no reason to change.

No 15-60 in my bikes.  "DUH"
I think everyone should decide what oil to use in their bike.
I have made my choice.

In the Tampa Bay area I get my Redline products from Summit Racing Mail order and I usually get it in a few days now since they have the store and distribution center in Atlanta now. There are a couple of speed shops around my area of TB that have Redline products but I refuse to give them my business due to past issues with them, also the NAPA store used to have some products as well as the purple products.
I put the Redline ShockProof in the trans and Redline Primary just before a 4K ride and it sure quiets the tranny down. I can't say I noticed a whole lot of difference in the primary since it got dumped about 80 miles into the ride because of clutch failure.
I have been using Mobil 1 20-50 in the motor but am going to try RedLine in the motor on the next oil change.

I ordered my Redline Oils from Jeg's.  I live in Wichita, KS and received it the next day, free shipping but did have handling charge.  I'm not sure where it shipprd from but was surprised when it showed up the next day.  Also, as far as the wet clutch goes, it's my understanding that the fluid used in the clutch area CANNOT have moly in it.  I bought the vtwin primary oil.

Been using MTL, now Primary lube oil, probably overkill, could just use good trans fluid. Shockproof is great in the trans, but would make a mess of you clutch! If you think about it, the fluid in your primary is carrying away heat, conditioning you clutch pack, and a small amount of lube to the chain. It's not like your motor or trans where you need high lubrication quality's.

So don't ask me how I know this.... But
When I 1st changed the Sportster over to Red Line in 2003 I tried Shockproof in the Primary since in the Sportster the Primary & Trans share the same fluid.  I did run it a full 5000 miles and while I didn't have any real trouble the clutch was sluggish, no doubt about it.  Then I did 3 fluid changes in a 1000 miles trying to get it all out & get the clutch working properly.  30k miles on the Sportster now with no issues but from my point of view.
MTL for the primary & shockproof in the trans only.

I walked outside yesterday and my bike was bleeding ShockProof. It's been in there for awhile, but it's still brain red on the ground. It looks like it may be coming from the trans cover, it's not the plug though that was my first thought. I'll find out tomorrow when the garage is cooled down and I meander out to the garage around 10 AM. Good stuff though, it still amazes me,

Has anyone tried the Redline 20w50 power pack?:

http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=105&pcid=19

Big Twin 20W50 PowerPack
Includes 5 quarts of 20W50 Motorcycle Oil, 1 quart of V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProof, 1 quart of Primary Chain Case Oil, 1 bottle of Fuel Injection Cleaner for Motorcycles, a sticker kit, a Red Line Oil embroidered hat, and a versatile funnel

Guess I'm wondering if you save any dough this way, does or does not include the best fluid choices, or if you just end up with a sticker and hat.

I am wondering if in the Tranny are people using Redline Heavy Shockproof or are they using redline V-Twin Tranny Fluid with Shockproof?? I just put Redline V-Twin Tranny fluid with shockproof and I love the results but I see some people using or typing in there postings that they are using Redline Heavy Shockproof in their Tranny? What would the difference be and being that I live in the Desert and we get high temps in the summer to use the Redline Heavy Shockproof????

Good question! The Redline V-Twin line of products is new for Redline. I'm not convinced that it's anything more than marketing. Anyone know?

I agree with Howie, I've used both, haven't noticed any difference between the two, but it good stuff!!! My dealer only carries the trans oil with Shock Proof now, so I'm now using it.

Shock Proof
Acting like a liquid grease, these unique lubricants contain a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent, offering a "best of both worlds" balance of low drag and superior protection for gear teeth Unique lubricant with solid microscopic particles offers low drag/high protection
Relatively low viscosity, yet cushions gear teeth under extreme pressure
Helps to prevent tooth breakage, resists throw-off
Avoid use with pumps, coolers, and filters as unique medium and affinity for metal can cause clogging

V-Twin Trans Oil with Shock Proof
This product dampens transmission noise (reducing the notorious shifting clunk found in these gearboxes), dramatically reduces temperature, provides thicker oil films between gear teeth and resists throw-off
For all aftermarket versions like Baker, JIMS, S&S, etc.
For all H-D® trans including with Evolution engines, Twin Cam engines, and latest 6-speed Cruise Drive
Same fluid as our unique Heavy ShockProof® Gear Oil

Craig

Thanks Craig. That's what I thought! Gotta love them marketing geniuses! The V-Twin stuff's prolly more $$$ too! ;)

The primary and the trans have different opinions of what they need. To many times on forums I've seen advertisements disguised as posts. Thick gear lub in the tranny and some thing thin in the primary. Automatic transmission fluid works best for me with the clutch. It drags with 20w50 and even worst with the high dollar stuff that is advertised. Ever notice the problems on newer bikes that quote how they only ran the newer lubricants but something failed. Advertisers don't have the best interests in your bike only in selling some thing expensive.

I agree with the redline in the tranny, but am using amsoil speed shift atf in primary as well as there 20-50 in crank. very good combo, no clunk
