I don't want to say the name of the specific dealer... but I noticed an area dealer last week that looked like their walls and shelves were pretty scarce. About 1/3rd the chrome and accessories they usually have on the walls.

But then again this particular dealer charges $1 for dip-dots. That crap ticks me off. Buy hundreds and hundreds in parts, oil, filters, etc every year, and pay a dollar for a twenty cent freebie. Las Vegas HD charges two bucks for them!

If not going to put a name on the subject why waste the bandwidth and storage to refer to it at all?  Had no problem mentioning Las Vegas HD later in the same post. No one learns anything from random undocumented almost-references.

Because LVHD rips off their customers... period. I have several friends that live there and refuse to buy their bikes/parts from them. The local dealership I was referring to does not behave this way, with the exception of charging for dip-dots.

It was merely a statement of what appears to be a potential slump for a local dealership. Or maybe just an observation. Isn't that what we do here? Share info?

But this small dealership has served members of this board. So out of respect, I will not name them. If they announce a closing, then I would certainly share the news. If it's so upsetting to you, or you feel it's wasted bandwidth, then delete the damn post, comrade.

Wow... 34220 posts. Are you sure none of those were wasted bandwidth? Not even one?

Appreciate you not mentioning the name.....this thread is for those that are closing or have closed.  A number of dealerships have cut way back on stock....even in large metropolitan areas.  I was at San Jose last weekend and it looks like a ghost town in there.

Most, actually.  But I've never talked about what I then said I wasn't going to talk about then followed that by contradicting myself by mentioning a name all within the same post; friend.  "Comrade" was cute by the way.

Get pissy if you want.  I asked a question.  You say the dealer is local to you, you say it's a small shop, your location is posted; subtle you're not.  Just don't see the gain to be had from mentioning a dealer practice or circumstance with anecdotal or circumstancial references without actually mentioning the dealer.

JC's remarks in the post after yours notwithtanding it's generally been regarded as the practice around here to help each other out with information.  If a dealer closes anyone with gift cards, credits, prepaid service or other instruments in lieu of cash at that dealership lose out.  So it behooves the community to mention a warning if you feel (as you seem to) that there is something worth mentioning.

As has the local dealership in Joplin (Cycle Connection).  Not nearly so much P&A on the walls as has been the case previously.  It's been that way for months now (and has been mentioned as such for those that might be coming through the area).  I'm not concerned they might close up shop though.

I have also noticed that they are carrying considerably less clothing at CCHD as well.  I did receive an email from this week touting that "they have the largest selection of 2010 models."  I don't know if that is "largest" in the country, in the state, or just in Joplin.   :nixweiss:  :huepfenlol2:  They have 117 2010's in stock.

Every time I go out there the parking lot is full (of cars) and yet the store is always empty.   :confused5:

San Jose Harley-Dvidson is in the process of being sold, new owners just took the dealership over.  Parts are coming in and so are motorcycles.  Should be exciting for the market as dealership has been struggling for awhile. :)

Roeders in Sandusky, Ohio will be opening under new ownership. It will be located in the existing Roeder's building on USR 250 (Milan Road) and be called "Mad River H. D.". Their stated goal is to be open by Ohio Bike Week which begins June 4. The owners of this new shop are the same as those that own Adventure H. D. in Dover, OH.

Who bought it?  I heard that HOT (Morgan Hill) was going to buy it but the owner was playing hard ball to the point where it's now going to go back to the MoCo. :nixweiss:

Same owners that had it in the 90's.

That's good news.  I'd had some experiences with Roeder's over the years and they'd all been good.  Hopefully the shop comes back with some of that same flavor.

What's a dip dot?

Little round advertising emblem commonly stuck on the top of the oil dipstick.
