I think that if 75% of them closed, they would have a bigger "Attitude".

Where would be able to go?

competition is what helps us, lack of, kills us

I see what you are saying, but here in Texas we have dealerships roughly every 50 miles (or less ) along the major interstates and many of them have a piss poor attitude and are seemingly of the mindset:
"if you want the privilege of standing in our facility and tolerating our narcissistic-incompetent-customer is always wrong-we don't care if you do business here or not-piss poor attitude; go down the road to the next dealer because some poor slob will walk in behind you whom is perfectly willing to put up with this nonsense" !!!

So , I digress, that if roughly half of those  dealers closed their doors due to lack of business in this economy, perhaps those that are left would adopt a more customer friendly business-like atmosphere and I would gladly travel farther to do business with the latter .

Wandell last week stated in Columbus:

"... Wandell said North America, with half of Harley-Davidson’s more than 1,400 dealer locations, has been over-developed and between 60 and 70 stores have closed with another 30 expected. Those closures are meant to strengthen the business for the remaining dealerships."

For which we read "will reduce competition and prevent discounting...."  Hans.  I've about had it with Harley, I'm afraid.  I'm just not willing to be ripped off any more.  If they'd stopped dealers selling to international customers and made the prices the same in Europe as they are in the US, I wouldn't have minded, but why should we pay several times the [already far too high] US prices?

I think HD is forgetting that a big dealer network helps sell the product ... I love the "Destination dealers" since they're fun to browse, but I don't think I'd enjoy a 200 mile round trip every time I needed service.  Oh wait, I do that now on my other bike (a beemer) and it isn't the worst, but it is a hassle ... and god help me if it needs to stay overnight.

Hi Jim,

the MoCo seems to have survived the crisis - but the US dealers are still in it while our european dealers didn't even feel any crisis at all. But they do now ...

Wow. I can't imagine. Just saw in this months HOG magazine the CVO Ultra lists at $37,249.00. I hate paying any freight or dealer prep over here. I can't imagine what you'd have to pay there.  :-\

You could get ya a BMW.......just sayin.  :P

It seems like all the dealers want is to rip off the customers.I had a flat Sunday and plugged it.Stopped by dealer in Chattanooga with intention of buying a new rear tire until the service man quoted me a price of 420.00.I promptly left and rode it on home.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TSI Columbia Harley-Davidson to consolidate with TSI Harley-Davidson of Ellington CT after 7 years in business. The owners, Harry and Kelly Levesque, say TSI Columbia Harley-Davidson is fortunate to have served many loyal customers over the years and will continue to do so at the Ellington location.

"It's been a pleasure working with multiple organizations in both Windham and Tolland counties to help build and strengthen the communities we work and live in. Over the years we are proud to have worked with the Willimantic Rotary, The Chamber of Commerce and multiple groups to help benefit those in need such as Little Hearts, Special Olympics, MDA, and many other local charities."

TSI Columbia Harley-Davidson opened in 2004 after being a satellite retail location for the TSI Harley-Davidson of Ellington, CT. In that time, TSI Columbia was awarded the Bronze Bar and Shield in 2008 and the Silver Bar and Shield in 2010 from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

"The decision to consolidate has been a personal decision for us since many of the employees and customers are considered close friends. It's been a pleasure serving our loyal customers at our Columbia location over the years and look forward to serving them for many more at our Ellington location," said Harry Levesque.

TSI Columbia Harley-Davidson notified Harley-Davidson of its plans to close in September. TSI says Harley-Davidson, at this time has no plans to replace the dealership.

Customers will be able to find us at TSI Harley-Davidson in Ellington, CT who has been serving customers for over 39 years. Many of the employees from the Columbia location will transfer to Ellington to continue the excellent service they provide.

50% off through thursday on clothes/etc and 30% on discontinued parts (though I didn't see much) ... Sad to see them go since it's a nice store in a good location.
