Stumbled on a Gem
« on: September 09, 2013, 09:43:08 PM »

Usually ride to Gatlinburg, Tn 2 or 3 times a year because of all the beautiful riding in the area (and the boss gets to shop at Pigeon Forge). For anyone that is headed that way from NC (or in the area for day rides), you gotta do this. Shortly after crossing into Tn on I-40, take exit 451. Go back under I-40 and cross the Pigeon River, take a left on Waterville Rd. It runs beside the Pigeon for 3 or 4 miles then take right on Mt. Sterling Rd (Hwy 32). This will meet back up with Hwy 321 North of Gatlinburg. Not a long ride, bout 25 miles, but it don't get no better. Thought I had saw everything in WNC-ETN......boy was I wrong.

Very nice ride....found that one a few years ago but hadn't been on it in a while....guess I need to re-visit.

So, you came over in our neck of the woods and didn't let anybody know.... :nixweiss:  We would'a had them check you at the border.... :huepfenlol2:

Jimmy, next time give us a heads up when you come over and we can meet/eat a bit/ride a bit... :2vrolijk_21:

                                                                               READ THIS BEFORE GOING

Just wanted to add this as some people refuse to ride unpaved roads not matter the conditions:

There is about a 1 mile section on the NC side that is NOT paved. While it is super hard packed and offered no trouble to me at all, I understand that some people refuse to ride off pavement and with the type of scooters that most of us ride I fully understand that reasoning. 90% of Hwy 32 can still be riden without leaving pavement but would require turning around at gravel. This would not be bad, as you would then ride the best part of the road twice. This would require getting on 32 on the Gatlinburg side, leave Gatlinburg on 321N to 32S. If you come in off I-40 the gravel section is near and crossing it is the only way to enjoy the ride. Just wanted everyone to know.  Jimmy

:jack:....

As long as it is not as bumpy as the road the young lady in your avatar is riding on... oh wait... who am I kidding... if she was on the back of my bike bouncing around like that I'd go to the end of the road and tell her to ride it to me. :P :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Minor detail - deviation  :nixweiss:
Hey Duane & those going with him.....if it goes. You would be coming into Gatlinburg on 441. Take a rt at light 8. Then go straight, Airport Rd to Cherokee Orchard Rd to Loop Rd & follow the signs to Roaring Fork Rd. At Loop Rd it becomes one way and a good ride back to 321. Go 321N to 32S. If you get to go........you will love it. Talked to a friend and he said local rains could make the mile of gravel pretty bad, just gotta judge, turn around if unsure.

Oh yea, and don't go near Pigeon Forge. The 1st 3 weekends in Sep are car show weekends and it could take you 4 hrs to go 10 miles!!!!!
