Hello,
I just found the windshield I want and it is listed under the Touring section in the P and A Book....
I am interested in the dark smoked wind deflector to install on my Fatboy. I saw one today on a guys Road King and it looked great. It appears to have the same detachable hardware, etc. I know the shield will be cut out a bit larger to accomodate the headlight nacelle, but would that be the only difference?
I don't know if there is one available locally at the dealership to try so I am afraid if I order it, then it will be mine regardless of if it fits or not.
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for the reply. Seems to be the consensus...
I really like the smoked wind deflector that comes on the RK and I wanted to put it on my bike. Then I got to thinking that maybe I could just get the actual plastic part and mount it in my detachable hardware. But, I believe that will not work either. Would you agree with that as well?
-
depends... I kept the adjustable smoked windshield from my 03 Fatboy and when I tried to fit that on the 06 SE Fatboy, the brackets on the windshield was too wide. Pissed me off as it would save me money and I liked the fact that I could adjust the height. So in the end, I went to Tacoma Screw and bought longer bolts with chrome spacers and made it work....

The only question I have at this point is if deflector 58799-02 will fit in my brackets....
I'll remove my existing lexan window and reinstall this one. I'd hate to spend 125.00 at the dealership and get home to find that the glass won't fit.

I have a memphis shades windshield on my serk. comes with the frontside hardware. you have to use your own detach hardware on the back. got mine through JP Cycles.

I can't wait to find the one detachable Windshield that's a must have for me. I will continue to eat wind punches in the chest and chin until I see "the one". Dave, I have looked and looked I swear. I've looked up and down the coast; looked at most of the catalogs that flirt with the item, but don't have one installed that just does it for me. I don't care how much it costs, I just want it right from day one, and no hassles.
When you get your new one installed, we got to hook up so I can see it up close and personal.

Here is a cell phone photo of the Road King Wind Deflector. The guy who owns it says it works great. I like it because it is very small/sporty and has a dark tint. The bummer is, aparently, it won't fit on our bikes....

I have a heritage with a detach,, will not fit the wifes fatboy, because the brackets are wider due to the lightbar.
-
How much wider? A couple of washers worth or too wide to be practical...
Thanks for the input.

it would look really funny. if I get time, I'll take a few pics.

Taildraggerdave,
Have you found the right windshield yet? I have a 2005 Fat Boy SE and would like to have a detachable windshield also. The problem is all the threads I read where owners have installed a windsheild, on the Fat Boy and say it doesn't function that good.
It would be nice to know which model was considered the best overall for the SE and would clear the tach.

I run the king size detachable on my SE and love it. The fit is great.
-
Do you look through it or over it? What kind of buffeting do you get at highway speeds?
Tom

Used to look through it with absolutely no buffeting.
I cut it down to look over it and get some buffeting at about 80.
I probably should have cut it down only 1 inch.

wife got the full size detach for her 05 eagle,,,, then had it cut down for her height.
when sitting on seat, windshield should be even with the point of your nose.

I was able to actually try a RK detachable on my Fatboy a couple weeks ago. A guy at work has one and we tried the swap. As stated before, the RK mount is a bit too wide. I was able to flex the windshield enough to install the lower mount. The RK mount is about 1/8" wider than the Fatboy mount.
The main problem is the RK mount is physically shorter and won't engage the top locking mount but instead will pass just under it. If I decide that I absolutely have to have the shorty RK deflector on my bike, I can come up with some sort of adapter bracket.
For now, it's fine the way it is.

like I said earlier, the adjustable windshield came off an 03 Fatboy which is wider (forks) than the 06 SE. I got the chrome spacers (.75" upper and .50" lower) and they fit fine. Windshield is too tall and needs to be cut down a bit. The way it is now in the picture, is at its lowest level. I can raise the windshield by about 4-5 inches.

This is a very old thread, my question is will a 2013 Roadking windshield fit on a 2010 Softail Heritage?

Just found this post. The answer to that would be NO. the front ends are different.
