Title: CVO BO heel rests
Post by: Silver-A on October 14, 2014, 12:18:38 AM
Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting heel rests for my CVO BO, as we all know, there are issues with the bike clearance and foot pegs scrapping with the BO as it is, wandering if those heel rests would make the clearance even worse.

Any of you have them or have some information or review to share? Thanks a lot for your time.

Silver,

That's my bike in the photo. I have had the heel rests for about a year and they have saved the heels on my boots but not the primary cover, which got bent out of shape and started leaking after being scraped a couple times (once trying to keep up with Jimmy 2K through the Smocky Mountain twisties this past May - The dude rides it like he stole it, what can I say).

They make the ride more comfortable since you rest your feet on the pegs/heel rests like you would on floorboards. As far as clearance, well, we are talking about a BO after all! :) They don't make the clearance worse than it is, how can they? It can't get any worse (note the primary cover incident above). The heel rests on my bike are set lower than the foot pegs and are the first to hit the ground. So they also help save the foot pegs as I have learned to lift my foot and let the whole thing fold up so I can scrape the primary!  8)

The pegs are $10 each so I will be swapping them out for a fresh pair this winter as the ones on the bike currently have lost a lot of metal around the tip/bottom.

I highly recommend them for ride comfort alone. And as an added bonus the heels on my boots are good as new.

Thanks a lot Cam. Looks like I will be getting those heel rests soon.

Hope you didn't mind me borrowing your bike's pic. It's awesome.

No problem. My bike is not camera shy at all and doesn't mind having its pictures posted all over! ;D

Cam,
Where did you buy the heel rests and where did you find the vertical license plate mount?

I just purchased the heal rests from HD, have not installed yet.

RoadDawg,

I ordered the license plate holder from a seller on eBay and bought the heel rests from the local HD dealer.

Let me know if you need part info but if you search for heel rests on the HD site it will have all the info.

Real to install. Tool about 10 minutes.

Cam, have you done anything to the primary to fix it? I just saw some gouges on mine, and on the pipes on the other side. Thought it was just pegs scrapping the entire time. I haven't had it start leaking though. I can live with the battle scars but if it does start leaking I hate to spring for a new cover.

It had to be replaced! :(

Do the Shotgun shocks add or reduce the clearance if you ride with them extended to the max? I am pretty sure I only grind down to the primary when I ride with a passenger and I have the stock shocks.

Nice mods by the way.

When I scraped the primary in NC while trying to keep up with 2k the shocks were set to normal ride height. When I bent the primary cover and had to replace it I was riding the bike in the slammed mode without noticing it. Lesson learned now when I'm riding the twistes it is jacked up as far as it can go. Looks silly but the ground clearance is optimal. I can keep up with everyone else and only occasionally scrape the heel rests even going around the bend at 50/60+ miles on clover leaf on/off ramps.

Awesome, thanks! My buddies ride Vrod and Ducatti so I need all the clearance I can get.
