I'm sure this has been covered before but I'll ask anyway. How do you get the shoe rubber or sole marks of your pipes without killing the chrome?

Use an SOS pad.

It won't scratch it? Should the pipes be warm or just anytime?

I use s100 polishing soap. http://www.s100.com/s100_fr.htm
You can also use a very soft wood on it when it is hot

I've had good luck with Mothers Chrome Polish.

Nope, no scratches. Try it, you'll be amazed. I thought the guy who told me about it was freakin' nuts (sorry JR! ;D) until I gave it shot myself.
I used it on cold pipes. Just wet it down like you would if you were cleaning the oven with it. Takes it right off. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I've always used easyoff oven cleaner. works great. just be sure not to get any on the paint.

Yep, Fine steel wool and S100 work great together.

Greetings, All, (My first post) I use Never Dull on cold pipes. It may take a few times for it to come off completely, however it has always worked for me. ;)

Brian (103tHunDer) is right about the SOS pads - -- - - - - - - - - - sort of. They don't scratch, but over time they will take the chrome off. So use them only when you've got some really nasty goo to get off your chrome or you'll see the copper underneath peaking out at you.

I thought the SOS pads were crazy but they work. Like Spiderman said they will after many uses take the chrome off.

Goo-B-Gone (honest that's the name of the stuff, I couldn't make up something that good) works as does denatured alcohol if the stuff isn't totally baked on.The alcohol is something everyone should have in their garage anyway. All of the stuff H-D makes with the two side foam tape to hold it on with always leaves a residue and the alcohol cuts through that and makes it easy to get off. For instance, the reflectors on the fork tubes and front frame down tubes everyone always pulls off as soon as they get their new bike home.

No I hav'nt tried anything yet. Been busy workin' and have been busy selling the Road King (finally)! There has been a lot of good ideas. I have some 3M adhesive remover I was going to try. Still kinda scared about the sos. That will be my next choice.

Don't be afraid of the SOS pad. I was at first, and was supprised at the outcome.

Wife seems to enjoy melting her heel on her pipes, and let 'em bake on real good. :-/ I use a heat gun and a piece of hard plastic; heat up the mark, then use the edge of the plastic to scrape it off. Plastic gets a little soft... just use another edge.
But recently I had a cigar lighter in hand (wonder why) and, being too lazy to get the heat gun hooked up, hit the mark with the flame. Wow, softened it up and I scraped it off with my fingernail! I didn't 'blast' the mark, just waved the flame over it little by little. Yes, I burned my finger, thank you very much. :-[ Shoulda used the plastic. Flames and gas tanks... gotta love it! :D

All sounds so painful!! I wait for the pipes to cool and use "Goof Off" on a clean soft rag. Turn the rag frequently putting more Goof Off on it and let the solvent do the work. Good stuff and ya don't get burnt or blown up! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] ;)

Geez, dont you guys break your wifes in properly?? When I got my new bike, I made Laurie ride barefoot UNTILL she learned the pipes were off limits.

Road Rub chrome cleaning stick is the name of product. http://www.roadrub.com Comes in a dry roll out stick. Just rub on chrome that has burnt plastic,bugs,tar,boot scuffs and adhesive and mark just disapears.This stuff is great two [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] got this at local stealer.

I've used easy off oven cleaner in the past. If you want to prevent this in the future, look at the Kuryakyn adjustable highway peg for the passenger. This actually also acts as a foot guard to keep the boot away from the pipe. Since I've put these on, not a single burn spot. [smiley=banana.gif]
