Topic: Anyone have thier bike not recognize the key fobs (Read 22772 times)

I was away for work for 2 months and came back to find my bike would not recognize the key fobs. I replaced the batteries to make sure that wasn't it.

If you had this happen, did you figure out what caused it?

My bike just had the same problem for two days. I did nothing different and just like magic it's all better.

I called the dealership for their default code and that didn't work either.

I've been trying for 3 days and that siren is soooo annoying.

Can a dealership fix it without the correct code or is there someone on here that can help?

Was their default 1 2 3 4 5? If not try that as it was the default for most. If not I ain't no help?

Isn't the default code listed in the owners manual?
I thought they used 1 1 1 1 1 as the default nowadays, once upon a time it was 31313 (it was on my '06 ultra classic anyway)

If the trouble is the security system is not seeing the FOB's then the dealer should be able to re-synchronize them. I had mine stop seeing the FOB's - due to low bike battery voltage - if the voltage goes below 10.5V or 11V the security system will act screwy.

the dealership can 'remarry' the fobs to the bike. but, this shouldn't happen in the first place, so the initial cause needs to be determined. my dealership uses the last five of the vin for default. i would unplug the siren, flashing lights is easier to deal with than all that noise.

are the batteries right side up in the fobs?

try using a 'real' battery charger on the battery to make sure that it's topped off.

a great example of why its so important to change your pin code immediately. i changed mine before i even left the dealership, takes all of 1 minute to do.

how can you make that assumption? he didn't even say what kind of battery tender he had it on (battery tender being a generic term as well as a brand name, kinda like q tip or band aid)? and while that may have been true at one time, since deltran has shifted their bt manufacturing over to china, they are having a lot more problems, and failures.

my point was not to denigrate the tender, but if it did fail, a full blown battery charger would be needed to fully charge the battery. so in this case, 'real' was meaning a battery charger as opposed to a float charger.

The battery tender is the Deltran brand and I bought it in 2008. Never had a battery go down since using it. I'm disconnecting the battery today to try to get the bike to reset.

I did try all the common codes 11111, 31313, 12345, and couldn't try the zip or st address of dealership because of 0 in both. I leave town for work on Mondayand won't be home for at least another month.

I disconnected the battery and put it on a real battery charger. It was fully charged!!!!
I have kept it in the same spot for 4 years and never had this problem. I've checked for any device that might cause an electrical interference but found none.

I'm out of ideas.

Moved the bike out in the driveway, bought some more new batteries, installed the battery back in the bike and now it works.

Still haven't got the right code so I'll call the dealership again tomorrow and try to reset it. If not I will be going to the local dealership so that I can change the pin.

Never had a problem because I always change the batteries every 3 months as a precaution.

Still don't know the root cause or the fix because I did everything at once in despairation.

very easy to reset the pin code. don't need to go to the dealer for that.

with a working fob present, turn the ignition switch to run-off-run-off-run
press your left turn signal switch three times
press your right turn signal switch once

your existing code will now be flashing in the odometer, with the first digit flashing. to change it, just press the left turn signal until the number you want is in the window. note: zero is not an option

once you have the number you want, press the right turn signal to enter it and move to the next number.

repeat until you have the entire number you want, and then just turn off your ignition

... Other option: verify the address of that house to make sure it's yours...

More seriously, I had a problem like that and changed the FOB battery for another defective battery. Took me a couple of hours to figure that out...

I got the pin changed to something I would remember and wrote in my book to be double safe.

It was a random number as far as I could tell. It didn't match the VIN or any address of any of the 3 dealerships they own Zip or street number.

If I had to guess, I would say I bought a 2 pack of dead batteries from the store. I did have both fobs. I made sure to put them in the same way I took them out so I would be able to flip them again if they didn't work a second time.

I deserve the

glad that you got it figured out. now what you need to do is to practice using your override code a couple of times so that if you ever need to use it (again), you'll be able to knock it out without a lot of hassle

I bought 50 for $8 last year shipping included. Just verified, you can get 50 from NY for less than $20 plus shipping. If you search further, you will find them for less...

batterybob.com ships from FL and they're brand name batteries. Free shipping conus, usually 5% off coupon codes on the net. He's even got conversions for oddball numbers. My Ride-On TPMS caps died and had a weird battery number. Ride-On wants to charge you $8 per unit plus return shipping to change the batteries. I did it myself and have enough batteries left to do each one two more times all for $5.65

On another note, I keep a piece of cellophane separating the battery from the contact on my spare fob. This way you're not wasting away another battery every year.
