I want to paint my d/d muffler and heat shield black, anyone got any tips , that may have tried this :nixweiss:

Powder coating all of your heat shields and muffler tips should work and you can choose between gloss, satin or flat finishes.

i did this a long time ago with my 2010 denim black road glide.  i used a green scotchbrite pad, and scrubbed the chrome up.  then used a petroleum based cleaner to clean it all up, including wiping off any oil from me touching the pipe.  after that, use gloves any time you're handling them.  then some etching primer, a couple of coats.  then sprayed it all with high temp bbq black.  came out looking great, and i never had any problem with discoloration, peeling, etc.

ran this exhaust for almost a year before i changed it out to a rinehart 2-1.  the good part is that if you ever do have a problem, you can easily touch it up.

I had some done one time by Jet-Hot, VERY nice, coated inside and out. Also had a local powdercoater do a set using hi-temp powder. WAY cheaper than Jet-Hot and seemed to last just as well. Local guy only charged $120 for complete exhaust system and they looked fantastic. Also had him do the header on my old Buell in Bright Silver Chrome (His name for the finish). It was very shiny and never dulled or blued. I agree you can sand/scuff, clean, use a etcher then hi-temp color and it will hold up. OR take it to the powder guy, go back 2 days later and it's done ready to reinstall.

thanks
