Title: Advice For Paint Chip Please
Post by: RoadDawg on June 14, 2015, 10:10:12 AM
I have a paint chip the diameter of a grain of sand on my front fender. It's on the black paint and it is  gray underneath. Should I touch it up or will it rust if I don't?  I'm ok with the chip because it's so small but I don't want it to rust. Would rather not mess with it unless necessary.

If it's that tiny, it would be super easy to touch up.  Don't use the brush in the touch-up bottle, use a toothpick to place a tiny drop in the chip.

Anyway, if the prime is completely intact and not cracked, rust shouldn't be a problem.

A chip that small should be easy to bring the level of the paint back to above level with the surrounding paint. Then a little 2000 sandpaper to bring the repair to level, a small amount of buffing and it is eliminated forever. Easy/peasy.

Saw the thread title and thought someone wanted to paint Chip.  Then saw they weren't talking blue paint at all.  So knew I was wrong.  Never mind....

There is a product out there called LANGKA for repairing chips  ...  I have used it successfully on my bike a time or two over the years ...

Its touted as a "blob eliminator" ... Use Harley factory touchup color and the langka.   They sell it as a kit with everything you need, brushes ,cloth, plastic straight edge etc , or you can buy just the liquid and supply your own accessories ...    there are youtube videos demonstrating how to use it ....  it does work ..

I like the fact that you don't have to use sand paper with this method and risk making a more noticeable flaw ..
