Paint Safe Glue Adhesive Removal
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:41:56 PM »

I am selling my Son's Bike. He had velcro Strips stuck to his Gas Tank. How can the glue and adhesive be removed without damaging the Black paint on gas tank. Thanks

3M makes a spray on adhesive remover I used to remove the sticky residue when i removed the paint protector film on the saddle bag lids. takes a few applications and you must use a micro fiber towel as not to make scratches and be patient with it. Even then with the clear coat, you might have to use some swirl mark remover when its all done. good luck

I think it might be citrus based, also.  ;)

I could not find the 3m or Goo Gone so I used WD40 that and use of finger nails did the trick. Worked well. Thanks

WD-40 is aerosol duct tape....can do many things with it.  It's a great cleaner for removing tar "dots" off the chrome exhaust, too.

I agree about WD-40. Not sure if they still make it or not, but I used something called Goop or Goof-Off years ago and worked good. Nevrdull also is magical sometimes and smells better than the other two ... always a can of that in my garage.

A real man only needs two tools to fix things. If it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, WD-40.    :huepfenlol2:

Little different but got some rubber shoe soles melted on my chrome heat shields the other day and Goof Off Professional took it right off.  Never knew it would disolve melted rubber.  I'd be afraid to use it on paint as easily as it disolved the soft rubber.

Goof off and Goo-Gone both make several different products. The professional level, Plastic safe, Paint safe etc. Make sure you get the one for your application.
The 3M brand is usually easy to find, local automotive paint supply store.

:nervous: :nervous: Goof Off Professional will dissolve powder coating.  ALWAYS test before using this product on anything.....I learned this the hard way!
