Any info on how to care for the leather tour pak
« on: March 21, 2009, 11:12:23 AM »

I have purchased (NOV.) an '06 SEUC with the leather tour pak and am thinking about how to wash and care for this item.  So I am asking for any input on products that will condition the leather as well as protect it and what to wash it with.

49445CVO,

I have had the same Tour-Pak for a couple of years. I bought it for my 07 FLTR and have kept it to put on my 09 FLTRSE3 (SERG).

You want to get something on the leather that will make it water-proof. Leather Therapy is a treatment used on horse saddles that works very well.

However, when you wash the bike, be sure that the Tour-Pak gets dried *VERY WELL* before you apply anything to the leather. I once had a little green growth along the seams of mine when it stayed damp for a day or two.

I took it off the bike and let it sit in the garage, then cleaned it with something that required less water to get rid of the mildew and then let it dry completely. Next I applied leather therapy -- two or three applications with plenty of time for the leather to soak it up and dry in between.

Thankfully, I have not had any more problems with mildew.

Thank you very much for the heads up.  I will be extra careful.

Glare Leather Conditioner.

I have the glare leather conditioner but have not used it yet.  What kind of application did you make to it and what has been your experience with it?  Thanks.

I use Lexol on my tour pack, it is easy to apply, last quite a while, and keeps the color better than anything else I have used. Plus its reasonably inexpensive and easy to find at most saddle stores.....

That is what I use on the leather seats in my truck.

I've used Doc Baileys on mine since day one. Looks like new with no fading or wrinkles.

Easy.  Meguire's leather wipes followed by Glare leather and vinyl conditioner.
