Putting on a new rear tire!
« on: January 13, 2007, 01:21:30 PM »

I'm putting on a new rear tire.My question is should I change the front at the same time?I have 7500 mile's on my Seeg, the rear is worn out,the front does not look bad but it is at the dealer for winter storage.Just thought I should do both at the same time??? The rear always goes way before the front. It's not necessary to change them together. You'll probaly get another rear out of it before you need to change the front. That's been my experience with my RKs. ;) Hoist!  8-)

The only thing that would make me change the front is if you are going to a different tire/tread pattern on the rear.  If sticking with the same Dunlop that came on the bike, no need to do the front.  The new Dunlop Elite3 is an excellent tire from members here who have put it on.  When I next change rears, I will put these new tires on both ends.

That's if you can get them with Dunlop being on strike for so long.  I needed a rear and couldn't find one anywhere.  Local Dealer called me to let me know that they had a new bike delivery and the guy wanted white walls, so I could get this "used" tire with 5 miles on it for 20% off retail.  I believe that tires will start coming in mid February or so...

I haven't changed my rear tire yet, but I'm getting close.  I'm just over 7100 miles.  I'm used to getting 5000 miles out of back tires on my 02 Ultra.  On that machine, I changed the front tire after every two back tires.  I'm pretty anal about tires, and tend to change before I hit wear bars.  I will not run anything other than stock tires.  They work well, I'm confident they will not come out from under me, and I just don't think I'd have that confidence with another tire.  I've seen people wreck like that.

You know Earnie, I was expecting a hard time to find the Elite 3's when I purchased them in November. I found them at a decent price and were delivered in 3 days to the front door! I should have ordered another rear right then and there! Oh well, strikes over, shouldn't be long to get one....I hope! ;D

Hey since this thread is about rear tires. What's the deal with the fat tire on the rear of the 2007 SEUC ?  What else is different to make this work ? My 07 Road Glide has a lot skinnier belt than my 03 SERK. Is this the reason. Will the tire on the 07 SEUC mount up to my 07 RG ? Inquiring minds need to know.
