My CVO is possessed!!
« on: December 19, 2021, 03:42:12 PM »

I have a 2021 CVO SG with only 4 miles on the clocks...it's winter on the Tundra. The bike just developed a rather annoying tendency.  The alarm goes off randomly without reason. The bike is in a climate controlled mancave. Fobs are stored 15 feet from the bike in a garage drawer. Just sitting...all of a sudden the alarm goes off...then quits...until next time. Another odd occurrence is if I use my Jeep Cherokee key fob, the alarm now goes off. The Cherokee fobs are stored in my home totally separated from the garage. So what say you?  I often end up spending the night in the garage so this behavior is not conducive to a decent night's sleep.  Help!!!

It's winter. It ain't going anywhere. Turn the bike to the on position and then pull the main fuse. You'll sleep fine until the spring thaw at which time it needs a dealer visit.

Interestingly, before I pulled the main fuse I disconnected the battery tender. All hell broke loose with the alarm!  Something is screwed. Dealer gets called on Tuesday. Still thinking evil spirit posession!

That's nuts. It's acting as if the battery was disconnected. If you're feeling up to it, check your battery connections. I realize you shouldn't have to do that in a brand new bike but it's a starting point to a good night's sleep.

Thought about that, removed the seat, more crap hiding the connections than on a typical bike.  I said screw it, let the dealer figure it out. Maybe the tender had something to do with it, but what's with my Jeep fob setting off the alarm??  Anyway, main fuse is residing in one of the bags, so no more alarm!  Thanks for the reply.

Glad you have a temporary fix to it. That thing with the Jeep fob is pretty interesting. Will be watching when you post your follow up.

Have you tried to put bike in transport mode until you can get it to the dealer for a fix, instructions should be in owners manual. To disconnect the battery or any other electrical work you should turn the ignition on with fob present, alarm deactivated, then pull the main fuse, install the fuse with the ignition off.

Good luck, hope you don’t have to get the bike an exorcism

Thanks for all the replies. This is my 6th CVO SG.I never had a lick of trouble with the first 5. And this is puzzling at best. I too will be interested in what the tech finds. I won't call the local priest until after the codes are read.

That thing with the Jeep fob is pretty interesting.

We have the two Harleys in the garage.......have two 'resident' Jeeps ('14 & '17)....and innumerable other Jeeps (usually '19-'21) as my Wife drives demos......and we've never experienced any type of conflict.

The frequencies must be the same, or at least close enough to be recognized

The thing is, have 2 jeeps in garage. Never had any crosstalk for 6 months, now this. Possession I tell you.  Maybe the CVO knows a 2022 GSA is going to take the place of the Pan America that went bye bye after 364 miles

Well hell, there's the problem right there. There have been no reports of this happening with a CVO RG. Should have upgraded the fairing this time.

Yes. Owner and I are kinda friends..I give him crap and he does the same in return. Decent guy. So when I told him what was happening his reply was " that's because it's your bike"  and the wondered out loud if it could be due low battery in the fob..reminded him I have 2 fobs.  Oh, never mind. He then said,do you want us to come pick the bike up now or just wait for the 22's to come out so we only have to make one trip!  Smart ass knows me too well. It was left where he will pick the bike up after the holidays, and in the mean time have his tech guys do some investigation. I am fine with that plan. Would like to ride the bike at least once before it's traded....lol.

Good luck with it. Even if you do trade the thing in before it's fixed, follow up with your buddy there to find out what was causing it so we can all learn from it.

I would speculate a loose battery terminal

I hope it is that simple, but would that account for the crosstalk issue with my Jeep fob which just recently occurred?

That was my initial thought also. Tried to check the terminal tightness through all the crap over the battery. Seemed tight, but time will tell.
