Colour Choice?
« on: August 10, 2010, 02:34:16 PM »

Hi all,

Opinions on my dilemma.

I am thinking about trading my 2010 FLHX on a 2011 FLTRUSE, I am in the UK where they traditionally don't import the roadglide at all, not since 1999 anyway.

I have had 2 CVO's before, 2008 FXSTSSE2 in Inferno Orange, and 2009 FLHTCUSE4 in Autumn Haze, I purchased a standard FLHX this year, albeit in a custom colour, White Ice/ Black Ice, because I didn't want to spend CVO money, the FLTRUSE is £28,590 in the UK. I am only considering a CVO this year as its a roadglide, and it has all the bits I want on the bike.

Dilemma:

I like colours that are different, used to ride Kawasaki's years ago, but never had a green one! The 'tan turd' appeals as it would be different, I think not many takers, so, as I don't particularly like the other two colours, should I go for my favourite, despite the fact that residual value on the other colours is likely to be better. Or, as you can see, I change bikes often, so should I be safe and go for the red, which will always be OK to sell on.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Simon,

Here's my $.02 and that's about what it's worth:

Get what you like.  I've seen some pics of the "Tan Turd" that are beautiful!  I think the bad rap is due to the photos, not the bike.  It's certainly the most distinctive colour (note sp.)  These machines are purchases of passion.

I have the Yellow SERG.  1 of 492.   :nixweiss:   :nixweiss:

Simon, i agree with Greg.Get the color that trips your trigger.

After all the world may end before you get a chance to trade it off.!!!!!!

P.S. I would have taken a yellow SERG if i could have found one first.

I've done it, I've ordered a Frosted Ivory & Gold FLTRUSE.

My dealer thinks November or Early December for delivery, perfect for all the winter salt!

Still, gives me time to clean it up and add the bits I want.

Woohoo!!!!

I would like to see a "Tan Turd" in person, when I first saw it I thought that it looked like crap. Altough I find a big crap is very comforting.

I like the charcoal slate and twilight black mainly because I just like darker vehicles.  The golden glide does look nice and is unusual but it just does not convey to me what a bike should look like.  As for the red, well I don't want to go that fast and we know that red bikes are faster - at least that's what all those who own red bikes say.

I used to have a red bike (FLTR) w/103ci. It was pretty but in no way was it faster than my new Charcoal Slate & Black FLTRUSE  ;D

So I know turd is the word for this bird but it is really growing on me too. My wife told me it reminded her of 60's camper paint job but I think of it as nostalgic. Bravo for all the color schemes on the FLTRUSE line up. Just wish we had an "Eagle" on 'em.

I agree with 61  in that the Silver SERG's are the classiest of the 09's . When i first saw the photos of the " Turd" i agreed .: What were they thinking !!!!!    AS time goes by and there are better photos showing up the color is growing on me. No that I'm going to trade my 09 off.!!! just hope they have one at BB&Bq this year so i can see one in person.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.  :bananarock:

Apparently in Europe the colour is Maple Metallic and Roman Gold, go figure. (Hope its the same!)

Even though on the UK website its Frosted Ivory and Vintage Gold.  :nixweiss:

HD sure make it confusing when you're spending loadsa money, guess I'll continue on in blind faith anyway.

Take care all.

I'm really offended by the color remarks.  She's not a turd!  Screamin Hershey squirt...maybe but no turd.  All kidding aside.  I really like it but...seems like a little too muc cream on top staring back at you.  So I settled with a RIO Red to go with my 09 Silver Serg.  you know, you just cant have too many Screamin Eagle Road Glides!

This is an interesting thread. It reminds me of when I was waiting on my banana to come in. Everyone was getting their teal or red SEEG in and posting pics. I remember hearing those that were talking about the banana and how it was too much yellow with the inner fairing painted yellow too. I came close to changing to a cherry but decided to stick with the yellow. I'm so glad I did. I had no idea how beautiful the paint was in person. Depending on the angle of the sun you get a green, red, gold or yellow hue in the metal flake. When we were at Barber race track in Birmingham, I could look across the other end of the track and spot my banana sitting on the hill! I obviously love it. Can't wait to see this "turd" in person and make my own opinion. :2vrolijk_21:

So my dealer got a Rio Red on the floor about 3 weeks ago. He offered to trade me my Charcoal Slate/Black Ember (10kmiles) plus $5k.
What a deal. I passed.  ::)
