Here is a side by side comparison of my seeg with the new tire and my deluxe. The deluxe has a white wall D402 MU85B16 with 4400 miles. The tire on the duluxe shows the size tread pattern that was originaly on my seeg.

Heres a side by side from the rear showing the different profile and width of the 160 vs the MU85. Sorry I know the bikes are dirty but its awfully cold here.

Here is a side by side comparison of my new front tire on the seeg and the front tire on my sefb. The sefb shows the original tread pattern as what was oem on my seeg before the change. You can't see it from the pic but the new Elite 3 tire is I think is about 3/8 inch narrower than the original.

Roy, thanks for the report and photos.  The tread pattern on those does look SWEET!  They look like they'd definitely be a better cornering tire than the D402s.

Give us an update after you get a few more miles, OK?

I put on the Elite 3s right before MV Roy.  They handled all road conditions including pretty heavy rain for a stretch on the way home without any issue.  Just felt solid all the time.  Maybe 4000 miles total on the tires sor far and no complaints.  In fact I think they're bet wet road tire I can remember riding on.

It was the stock size Scot.  I considered the bigger tire.  But no one had one and I was only a few days before leaving for MV.  So it wasn't really an option.  I don't remember if you're one of the guys that rode the red bike at MV or not.  A few did when we talked about the new tires one day.  I've really liked them so far; especially for a highway tire.

Don, are you saying you had the Honda shop pull the wheels off your bike and do the tire swap or did you pull the wheels?

Either way thats a h_ll of a price. I pulled my wheels and had a local old school chopper shop do the tire swap/ballance $60. I had the local Honda shop do a tire swap on my BMW last year but was leary having them mess with my detonator's. I payed about $225 for the tires, note that 160 is a little more than the MU90. I never checked prices at the local Honda dealer here but from my experience they dont have prices here like you experienced.

They did the whole thing Roy.  R&R the wheels and mount and balance the tires.  They've got one guy in the shop that works on Harleys (other than interneal powertrain).  So the "Harley Guy" pulled the wheels and did the work.  It was basically just the cost of the tires and a free installation.  For what it cost I wasn't about to take them on and off myself and haul stuff back and forth.

Thanks for the report and pictures Reo.  The Elite 3's and the ME880's have the same style tread pattern.  As Reo and 2Lane have stated about the Elite 3's, the ME880's are also vastly improved over the 402's..  I would buy the ME880's again and would have no problem buying the Elite 3's..  If I were to purchase a new HD, the 402's would be off before it left the dealer or soon as I got home.  The 402's would be replaced way before exhaust, etc..  The only downside of the 880's or Elite 3's is the lack of availibility on the road while traveling.  Most people will never go back to 402's once they've changed to the before mentioned tires.
