Title: A question about cameras.
Post by: Ironhorse on January 05, 2019, 11:24:45 AM
Ever since my cousins accident I'm thinking about installing front and rear cameras on my bike. The deeper I dig into his accident, the more it looks like someone either ran him off the road and fled, or he went down avoiding something like deer. In any event we may never know as he doesn't remember a thing, and there were no witnesses.

This got me thinking to install a cameras on my bike. I'm not looking to create a touring video, but just something to record forward and back, maybe a continuous loop. Something than can be pulled post accident and studied should this befall me. I don't want something obvious and unsightly, just something discreet that can be out of the way.

Does anyone have experience with these types of camera systems. I'm looking for something small than can be mounted under the Bat Wing and TourPack.

Thanks

Mark,
Firstly, I haven't talked to Alan in a bit but I hope he is doing well. When I did, he seemed to have a great attitude.
I have no personal experience but I often see advertisements for this system:  Motorcycle Waterproof Dash Cam (https://americanlegendrider.com/products/motorcycle-waterproof-dash-cam?gclid=CjwKCAiAyMHhBRBIEiwAkGN6fEVQF-qvlky8EyS6iMUVhLDJZ6Wp5cmmlPCvoQiNh28KIgjhIm5j1RoCQSgQAvD_BwE)

If you search "motorcycle camera monitoring system," you'll find various systems which attach either to the bike itself or to your helmet.

Thanks Greg, that is exactly what I was looking for, a complete package.

Alan is in PT and OT rehab now. He still does not have any use of his right arm, and limited use of his left arm. He can hold things in his left hand, but there is no strength or control. He can't hold a fork or feed himself. He can scratch his face and nose. All of this should clear up with time as the affected nerves in those areas quiet down and all the swelling goes away. The most difficult thing is he is back in an immobilization collar around his neck. While they have determined that there is no obvious damage to his spinal cord, he does have some small breaks on the transverses (little pointed ends) on three of his vertebra. And he has damaged some of the ligaments on the right side. The collar is just to keep pressure off those ligaments so they can heal and he can stabilize his head and neck eventually. They have him on an hour of PT a day, getting him to sit up in a wheel chair and hold himself up on his own. Not easy when he has only one leg to push off with, and both his arms and hands are weak. But he is taking it as it comes along. I'm going to visit him again tomorrow. I'll tell him hello for you.

I put a camera  on my Ultra. I wanted something small that isn't really noticeable and found a good little set up.

Thanks much.  I see the camera but can't quite discern where / what it is mounted to.  Handlebar?  Thanks.

The front is mounted with double sided stick tape to the windscreen and lens mounting bracket (clean the surfaces off well with alcohol before mounting)

The rear lens mounting bracket is pinched between the TP bracket and fastener

Hi,

I am interested to know more about your camera system. Your post mentioned that you really like it. Is there anything you don't like? I've been doing some research and it seems that some of the different systems don't play back when off the bike. Something about the software not matching up to Windows or Mac operating systems. How is yours?

Every since Rogers (TrapperDog) accident last Friday I am back looking at cameras again.

Which system did you get? Does it play back on a PC/laptop?

After getting feedback from members, I'm going to go with the BlueSkySea DV688. It appears to do everything I am looking for, and seems to be an easy enough install. Hopefully there will be a vendor at Reno Street Vibrations with a rally price. If not, I'll order one on Amazon when I get back.

After what happened to my cousin Alan, and now Roger, I feel like I should be "recording evidence" every time I ride.
