For those who chose the HO over the MRs, any particular reason other than sound?  I've also been told by V&H that the MRs produce more low end torque whereas the HOs more high end for speed...

I chose the Monster Rounds over the HO for the better low end torque of the Monster Rounds but It was a tough choice however... The HOs fill the space under the bags better and sound even deeper. And the difference in torque is minimal...less than 5% loss over the monster rounds. Cannot go wrong with either one.
Now, to complicate things even further,  v&h just came up  with the new V&H 450s...even bigger and with even deeper sound.

Thanks again for the info.  I wonder why more noise with a 3/4 helmet?  I also always use ear plugs and a SHOE 3/4 helmet on long, freeway rides...  Nice looking CVO Road King btw.
Thanks!
My understanding on why a 3/4 helmet is worse than a half helmet is that it traps the sound of the pipes around your ears creating a "resonating bell" effect. Sound comes in from the bottom up and reverberates. It is even worse with a full face. No issue with half helmet at all from the pipes but you get no protection from the wind...and not much in terms of safety-protection. That is why I wear a 3/4 with ear plugs. Best of both worlds...

I struggled with this recently riding a used bike 1200 miles home that had a pair of Rineharts with my X Pipe.
As soon as the full face helmet went on the droning began. Even earplugs would not stop the resonating with the helmet on. Rode most of the way home with my half helmet. No issues with droning, but a little louder than I like on the climbs and passing.  Helmets can change everything.

This is why the wife and I always ride with half helmets.  I can't stand the resonating inside the 3/4 or full helmet.

Droning inside a helmet is the reason I won't shorten the baffle tips on the CVO Power cores. When you shorten or cut off the tip, the stock CVO endcap acts as an amplifier or something. The droning is dramatically increased. Many prefer the looks of the shorter tip back inside the endcap but if you wear a 3/4 or full helmet the frequency change will drive you nuts. I rode the last thousand miles of a trip last year with the endcaps removed. Looked like crap but the improvement was amazing.

Thats interesting re the helmets - I did a local 300 mi ride with a 1/2 helmet w/ earplugs- no issues; however on 500 mi ride home with 3/4 helmet and ear plugs lots of noise in the helmet and ears ringing most of the next day as well.

I just feel a little safer with a 3/4  helmet on, especially when average speed is about 70...

Having said that, anyone liking the V&Hs OS 450s?

Stay away from rheinhart they manufacture junk. V&H is the ticket. Have power stainless setup. Deep smooth sounds. Plus install was cake. No mods unlike rhinehart

Can you tell me why you said that?  I am planning to add 4 inch slip ons soon.  There are a lot of them out there.

I have run the V&H Duals with the HO ever since they came out, They have a deep tone to them, I  have been on several 1,000 mile trips and have no complaints, The group i ride with (which i always ride up front) say they can hear their radios with no problem and whoever is riding close to me i can hear their radio as well.

If i bought a new bike today the HO and a Thunder-Max would be the first things i would do. :2vrolijk_21:

I just installed the V&H HO's on my 09. I've changed my bags prior to installing these with full 4 inch extended bags and noticed they seem to sit very close to the bags. Has anyone had this issue??

Yeah why do you say that? Nothing wrong with the 4" quality wise. Some people remember the older Rinehart 3" with the tips that turned purple, but those days are long gone- they switched manufacturers, and the black tips don't turn purple anymore. I think V&H is all about looks and not performance.

I know performance wise Reinhart and V&H are same - I had Reinhart 4" slip-ons, didn't like sound, and replaced with V&H OS 450s, both were tuned by same tuner on same bike - same results in HP and torque.  It just comes down to your preference in sound and looks... I've tried a couple sets of Reinharts and always end up back with V&Hs... IMO, the Reinharts are just too harsh, especially for long distance trips, but that's also why they make chocolate and vinilla...
