Title: Prescription riding glasses whats the preferred brand
Post by: smkblwr on April 19, 2018, 07:03:22 PM
ok so I went for my eye test today in order to renew my CDL and I need glasses (bifocals) knew I was having trouble with distance but apparently I have a problem with small print also hahahaha. so what is your preferred prescription brand riding glasses? I am afraid that my expensive everyday glasses will meet a horrible death if I turn my head and they get sucked off my face with my half helmet, I have lost normal sunglasses that way before I started wearing my work "wrap around style" sunglasses.
thanks for any recommendations.

I use Maui Jim glasses for riding. I have the Longriders.  Both pair of shades and clear are with progressive lenses. They work great !

I have had very good luck with WyleX. I have 2 pair actually. One pair stays at work to work as my safety glasses and the other pair in the bike. The pair on the bike are prescription with bifocal and are a transition lens. Function great with or without the foam liner

Plastic wrap around RayBans from lens crafters.

I have 2 pair of prescription sunglasses. My favorite pair for riding are Oakley and then I have a spare pair of Maui Jim. The coating is wearing off the Oakley after several years of riding and skiing. So Maui Jim may be the go to. If you are afraid of loosing them while riding, you can get a strap / cord to help keep on your head. That's what I do when snow skiing.

Panoptx (7eye) builds a very sturdy pair of riding glasses. Most places will put your Rx in anything but the key is how they fit your face and removable gaskets are definately a must.

I have bought several pairs of prescription glasses from Sport RX and they can help you get the right size for your head and prescription requirements.
They make it easy on their website since they break it down by type of activity such as motorcycle riding, fishing etc. Customer service is friendly on the phone too and glasses arrive quickly.

No prescription, have used Maui Jim as riding glasses for 17 years.  Am on my second pair now, they last a long time.  Also occasionally use less expensive glasses, prefer MJ because the optics are great & their bifocals are positioned perfectly for the dash, etc..

+2 for SportRx and Oakley.  I use Oakley's Crosshair frames, aviator style that wraps to give side protection also. https://www.sportrx.com/oakley-crosshair.html (https://www.sportrx.com/oakley-crosshair.html)

I have a few pairs of WileyX glasses. Progressive bifocal, transitions.....I use them for work and riding. They come with foam inserts. My eye doctor's assistant gets the measurements for the focal points. Having proper measurements is the most important factor in your satisfaction.... besides a current prescription.

I have worn Liberty Sports for the last 5 years with Dx. They work great and are measured for proper fit. The hard foam clicks in and out with magnets.

Browsing CVO site just found this thread. I use Biker RX out of Columbia, Mo. Great folks not just trying to make a sale and be done with you.  Staff is very patient and knowledgeable and worked with me to get the right fit for my prescription motorcycle riding glasses.

Tell Dena that Donnie Foster of N.C. sent ya. office number: 573-442-1022. Happy holidays!

Been wearing glasses for 59 years. Main thing is to have someone, who knows how to do it, spot your eyes on the actual frames you are going to wear. Took me many years of econo glasses to finally figure out that no matter where they come from it you actually look thru the prescription points on the lens then everything is better. My last two pairs have been RayBan from Amazon, take the frames to Eye dr, she marks the lens then I take them to optical outlet who sends them off for lens grinding. Vision is great, I do wear trifocals transitions.

Luckily I had Lasik over 10 years ago so haven't needed prescription glasses in a while. I always used the guys at the link below and still use their non prescription glasses today.
