What changes were made to the 2014 103s?
« on: September 08, 2013, 11:19:09 AM »

My dealer was unable to put a canned map on my new Street Glide Special (cams pipes and a/c).
They have the map for the same exact combo on the 2013s.  They said it was something with the new ECM.
Any ideas of what could have changed? :nixweiss:

Steve,

The '14's have a whole new system,  "CAN bus" (for controller area network) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer.  CAN bus is a message-based protocol, designed specifically for automotive applications but now also used in other areas.

See if you can open the link in this thread:   Anyone seen the 2014 Model Year Tech Forum?

Being unable to load a calibration into the new CANBUS ECM is only a temporary situation. The flash tuners such as TTS, PV, etc. have supported the Softails with CANBUS for several years now. CANBUS has finally been implemented in the Touring bikes in 2014.

Steve Cole of TTS has posted in his "WetHeads" thread that he's hard at work on the '14 calibrations for the new CANBUS Touring bikes.

It seems like the dealer should be able to do this tune.  Don't they know how to work with this canbus system yet?
If they don't, my new bike will not be delivered.
If the softails have had this for a couple of years, I don't know why the touring bikes should be any different.
(I couldn't get to the link mentioned)
I guess I shouldn't get the first year bike with all these changes. I'm just lucky that way.

The tuning device they are using has to support the bike into which they are trying to flash the calibration. It took TTS quite awhile to support the CANBUS Softails after they came out. It's an entirely new system, with new protocols for devices to talk to each other... and the command interface over which the tuner has to talk to the ECM is likely different as well.

I would think that the Harley tuners would support the new bikes fairly quickly... but that's a question that you would need to ask them.

TTS support for the 2014 Touring bikes should be available very soon, according to what Steve Cole has posted in other threads. I don't know about PV nor the other tuners, tho.

Funny, new cams for the bikes are listed in the latest SEPST software release!

Does anyone know are they now come with 255's?

The 110's through 2013 had 255 cams, known for low range torque.  HD says the 2014's have a higher lift cam but I have not seen the specifications.

While I have not seen complete specifications they are saying 255 like camshafts for whatever that's worth.

I don't know what the stock cams are, but I had them changed to 255s.  -Probably wasted my money.
Black Hills HD is supposed to deliver my bike today IF they can get the info to put the map on my bike from some guy from the MoCo who's been on vacation until today.

I also live by Alice Cooper's phrase "we sweat and laugh and scream here- 'cause life is just a dream here".
I even had my mom saying that before she died.
Oh yeah, back to the map.... :carrot:

You pulled the stock 2014 cams and replaced them with 255s?

Yes.
This bike is for my wife, and I was looking for more low end power.
Maybe I jumped the gun.  I don't know anything about the stock cams.
You pays yer money and takes yer chances.
Have I made yet another costly mistake?  :nixweiss:
