Hi New member here.
« on: August 15, 2007, 11:36:54 AM »

Just bought traded in my 2000 Heritage wth 15000 miles.. bought the FLHTCUSE3 Luv it!! Did I take a beating on the trade? I think so.. dealer said the trade in for bikes these days  without the 6 speed and 96 isn't what it used to be.
So my wife doesn't think it sounds like a Harley. Any suggestions? Slipons that won't break the bank. I personally dont mind the stocks.. But would like something louder but mellow. am planning a cross country trip in the spring.. anyh suggestions as to how to get ready for it? Work out.. practice runs etc.. what to pack.. how long should I plan  and how many miles per day is realistic? Well thats it for now.. take care .. and glad to be here. Tom

Welcome!  You'll get plenty of opinions here regarding the modifications to your CUSE.  If you want to just keep it simple, you might talk to your dealer about some of the Harley mufflers, a high flow filter, and their suggested download to change the fuel injection.

Tomcat,

Welcome from sunny HOT Oklahoma :welcome_005:  I didn't see a location for you???

What year is your CUSE?  Please post a pic of your new ride.  These guys here will hound you until you do :beatdeadhorse:  No, everyone here is helpful and very knowledgeable.  We don't care what you look like, just want to see a pic of the bike :D ;D :D ;D :D

I have had my 08 CUSE for a few weeks now.  I had the V&H Big Shot duals and the SE backplate for the A/C put on before I rode it home .  I really like the look of the pipes, but they are a bit louder than than I like.  I think V&H make some quieter baffles that I may try.  Probably the easiest and cheapest way to improve performance, looks, and sound is to change the exhaust and the backplate on the A/C.  The faster you can move air through the engine, the better.

If you change the exhaust and A/C, you will need to have the ECM remapped.  These changes will improve the performance, most likely improve gas mileage and cause the engine to run cooler.

Tom, welcome to the forum.

You'll really enjoy that trip next year.  There are quite a few long riders on this forum.  AK (Andy) Jonga (Jon) and I did an ocean to ocean ride last year, in June.  Met a number of the members on this forum along the way and had a great time.

As for suggestions.....depends on what month and what area you plan on riding in, as far as what to pack.  How many miles a day is realistic?  That, of course, depends on wether you're site seeing along the way or trying to just get somewhere.......you'll have to determine that.  How many are riding with you, or are you riding alone?  You might want to do a search about this topic.......it's all been covered before.

Here are some that I found on a quick serch..

That should give you some interesting read and keep you busy for awhile.  There's some good information in some of those threads.  Of course, ultimately, each person has to decide for theirselves what works best for them.
